FAC 12-11-00 City of Cupertino FINE ARTS COMMISSION Special Meeting December 11, 2000 CALL TO ORDER At 7:34 p.m. Vice Chairperson Carl Orr called the meeting to order in Conference Room A, Cupertino City Hall, 10300 Torre Avenue. ROLL CALL Present: Vice Chairperson Carl Orr, Commissioners Stephen Beard, Hema Kundargi, Charlene Pai (8:35 p.m.), Mary Sievert, Rita Young Absent: Janet Mohr City Staff present: City Clerk Kimberly Smith and Recording Secretary Dorothy Steenfott APPROVAL OF MINUTES Sievert moved to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of October 24, 2000 and November 28, 2000. Beard seconded and motion passed with Mohr and Pai absent. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS City Clerk reported on a letter from the Bay Area Showcase returning the grant funds to the City. They require a minimum amount of $1,125 to put on a performance and preferred to reapply at a later date when more funds may be available. NEW BUSINESS A. Consider canceling December 26 The commission agreed to cancel the meeting. B. Schedule for Council presentation City Clerk updated the commission on the status of the bi-annual presentations to council. She stated that presentations will begin again in February on an annual basis. The commission chose to make their presentation to council on April 2. December 11, 2000 Fine Arts Commission Page 2 C. Public Art Database City Clerk reported that a database will be created to keep a list of artists interested in working on art projects in the city. OLD BUSINESS A. Art in public places - proposal to city council A report to council was scheduled for April to allow time for review by the Parks and Recreation Commission. A new ad hoc committee comprised of Kundargi, Orr, and Young, was formed for the project. Young moved to approve the new ad hoc committee. Beard seconded and motion passed with Mohr and Pai absent. Sievert distributed a draft report to present to council recommending locations appropriate for public art. B. Cherry Blossom Festival Kundargi reported that she was unable to reach Diana Argabrite and will report next month. C. Mural in children's play area, Quinlan Community Center Young reported that she met with the City Clerk, Julia Lamy (Parks and Recreation), and Jeanine Grundman. Ms. Gmndman is currently working with Sunnyvale and Campbell parks departments. She also reported that the group viewed Ms. Grundman's portfolio and toured the playground area proposed for the project. Ms. Grundman will submit a bid at the next meeting. D. Commission goals City Clerk reported that there will be a council goal setting work session on January 19. The commission discussed additional information which may be useful for the goal planning session.
