CALL TO ORDER
Chair Tambe called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m. in the Community Hall, at 10350
Torre Ave, Cupertino, CA.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
1. Regular Meeting of June 6, 2019
Commissioner Stanek motioned to approve the draft minutes. Commissioner Xu j
seconded. Motion passed with unanimously.

OLD BUSINESS
2. Receive a Presentation on an Update on the Community Gardens Improvement
Project
Jeff Milkes, Director of Parks and Recreation, reviewed the community gardens
project with the Commission, reviewing the timeline of the project, current j
considerations on potential revisions, and the overall status. Overall project j
budget was reduced, volunteer efforts was added to the scope, and additional
satellite locations are being looked at. Plan to be finalized next month, with bids
going out in August and construction in the Fall. Item will be brought back in a
future agenda.
Chair Tambe suggested incentivizing the current gardeners and those on the
waitlist to help in the building of the new gardens.
3. Receive a Presentation and Update on the Dog Off Leash Area (DOLA) Trial at
Jollyman Park.
Jeff presented to the Commission about the outreach survey that went live on
August 1 and reviewed the various community outreach efforts and community
input opportunities. Survey will run until August 31 and the trial will be about 10
months long, starting in October of 2019.
4. Parks and Recreation Commission Fiscal Year (FY)2019-20 Work Program
Jeff reviewed the amendments made by City Council when they reviewed and
approved the Commissions work program, which included two items: the
community gardens and a review of the Blackberry Farm Golf Course.
NEW BUSINESS
5. Receive a Presentation on the Inaugural Cupertino Campout Community Event
Daniel Mestizo, Recreation Coordinator, presented to the Commission about the
new Cupertino Campout Event held at Creekside park on July 13 and 14. Showed
pictures of the event, survey results taken from participants, and the potential
expansion opportunities for the future.
Chair Tambe suggested reaching out to Patagonia, for a potential sponsorship
opportunity for next year's event. Commissioner Xu suggested adding photos to
the website to attract more participants.
STAFF AND COMMISSION REPORTS
6. Receive Monthly Update Reports from:
- Director
o Shakespeare in the Park
o Chess Event at Creekside Park
o Zumba/Yoga/Art in the Park Classes
o Citywide Parks and Recreation System Master Plan-final draft will be
publisized towards the end of September,with the final copy
hopefully adopted by the end of November.
o Will support voting opportunities in City buildings in the future. Chair
Tambe suggested having voter registration documents available at all
of the City events in preparation.
o Rancho Rinconada: a consultant is currently reviewing things. Item
will come to the Commission in the future.
Commissioners
o Commissioner Stanek attended the June 181" and July 161h City Council
meetings, Summer Events, and will attend the Corridor Stroll
tomorrow night. Spoke about the walkway from the Scenic Circle
towards the McClellan Ranch West Parking Lot was closed and
needed some maintenance.
o Commissioner Davis also attended the Summer Events and the 4ti, of
July event at Blackberry Farm.
