Art in Public Places - Report from ad hoc committee of Beard, Sievert,
Young
Beard distributed pictures of city parks taken by the ad hoc committee
and described places where art could complement the park setting. It was
determined that the Fine Arts Commission would make a presentation to
council identifying promising locations. The Parks and Recreation
Commission would also be included in the process. The ad hoc
committee will prepare a proposal and illustrations to review at the next
meeting.
Commission Goals.
Kundargi reported that she and Young met with Diana Argabrite (Euphrat
Museum's Arts in Schools Program) regarding the children's art mural
project. Argabrite discussed initial concepts with a central theme of
"sharing and community". She stated that a simple mural would cost
approximately $25 per square foot, a moderately detailed mural would be
approximately $40 per square foot and a complex topic would be
approximately $75 per square foot. Argabrite will return with samples of
children's work, which could be used for decorative tiles, as well as more
specifics about the size and cost.
Orr reported that the Public Works Department expressed interest in his
proposal to place art on city vehicles, pending council approval.
