FAC 09-26-00 City of Cupertino FINE ARTS COMMISSION Regular Meeting September 26, 2000 o CALL TO ORDER At 7:38 p.m. Vice Chairperson Carl Orr called the meeting to order in Conference Room A, Cupertino City Hall, 10300 Torre Avenue. Roll Call Present: Chairperson Charlene Pai (7:45 p.m.), Commissioners Stephen Beard, Hema Kundargi, Janet Mohr, Carl Orr, Mary Sievert, Rita Young City staff present: Recording Secretary Dorothy Steenfott APPROVAL OF MINUTES Mohr moved to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of August 22, 2000. Kundargi seconded and motion passed unanimously with Pai absent. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS Recording Secretary Dorothy Steenfott stated that any written communications received were all in the mail basket. Mohr stated that an exhibit called Watercolor: Four by Four was on display at the Los Gatos Museum of Art and Natural History and that one of the artist, Kay Carnie, was from Cupertino. The exhibit runs through September 29. NEW BUSINESS A. Fine Arts Grants Mohr, Young and Sievert formed an ad hoc committee to review grant applications. They will report to the commission in October. September 26, 2000 Fine Arts Commission Page 2 B. Commission Goals Kundargi reported that she, Young, and City Clerk Kimberly Smith met with Julia Lamy, Parks and Recreation, on September 11. She stated that the group found a good place for art at the Quinlan Center. There is a circular wall with tiles that could be decorated near the pre-school. She stated that this area was not visible to the public except for the children · and their parents and that this could be a good place to start. Discussion developed regarding moving art out into more public areas such as Memorial Park. The commission also discussed using the Apple public art money to fund some of these art projects. Sievert, Young and Beard formed an ad hoc and will tour the parks, prepare a proposal that could be presented to city council and report to the commission in October. B. Cherry Blossom Festival 2001 The commission decided on a theme called My Favorite Place in Cupertino. Kundargi will contact Diana Argabrite with the commission's theme. COMMISSIONER AND LIAISON REPORTS A. Selection of representative for Mayor's breakfast. Young volunteered to attend the breakfast on October 10.
