MINUTES FROM PREVIOUS MEETING
1. August 22, 2018 -Commissioner Chan motions to approve minutes contingent upon changes.
Commissioner Tan seconds motion. Motion passes unanimously.

OLD BUSINESS
2. Bobatino: Final Check-In
Staff Liaison Daniel Mestizo and Community Outreach Specialist Colleen Lettire, who are also
providing support with the coordination of Bobatino, gave the Teen Commission final details on
Bobatino. The following topics were covered: booth vendors, the day's logistics, expectations,
schedule, and event flow. The Teen Commission gave feedback on these different aspects.
3. Pizza and Politics 2018
Staff Liaison reviewed the details of the event with new commissioners. Daniel will provide more
details at the next meeting.
NEW BUSINESS
4. Oath of Office
City Clerk Grace Schmidt gave the official Oath of Office to the three new Teen Commissioners,
Kelly Tung, Tanvi Khot, and Krithika Venkatsubramanian. Grace also reviewed the Brown Act
and the City's electronic policy. Commissioners Tung, Khot, and Venkatsubramanian will return
signed policies at the next meeting .
5. Teen Commission's Role and City Communication Policies
Community Outreach Specialist Colleen Lettire visited the Teen Commission to review the
importance of the Commission's role in the eyes of the public. Colleen emphasized that as a City
Council sanctioned commission they are official City representatives and the primary voice of all
youth in Cupertino. Colleen also mentioned that, as City representatives, it is important to behave
as if the public is always watching, especially when interacting on social media. The City's
Branding Policy was additionally presented to the Commission.
6. Teen Commission Policies and Procedures
Staff Liaison Daniel Mestizo reviewed the Commission's Manual with the commissioners and
reinforced the information touched upon during ite m 5.
7. Selection of 2018-2019 Chair and Vice Chair
Commissioners had an opportunity to share their qualifications with their fellow commissioners
before an official vote to select the term Chair and Vice Chair. Following the vote, Commissioner
Vanitha Vemula was selected as Chair and Commissioner Sarah Tan was selected as Vice Chair.
8. Youth Activity Board
Staff Liaison Daniel Mestizo presented the Commission with updated Youth Activity Board (YAB)
Bylaws and policies. The Commissioners gave additional input and recommendations for the
YAB. Commissioner Emily Chan motions to support the implementation of the new Youth
Activity Board program in an effort to provide Cupertino youth and teens with more recreation
activities and opportunities to de-stress. Commissioner Krishnan seconds the motion. The
motion passes unanimously.
9. 2018-2019 Work Plan
Commissioners had a 2018-2019 Work Plan brainstorming session where they discussed various
projects they would like to see the Commission work on in the 2018-2019 year. Staff Liaison will
summarize the ideas and present them at the next meeting. The Work Plan will be finalized in the
coming meeting(s).

• Commissioner Tan informed the Teen Commission that the Regnart Creek Trail
Feasibility Study passed at the August 21 5 ' meeting.
• Commissioner Subramanyam reported the following information following the Mayor's
Meeting: informed the group of Bobatino and Pizza and Politics, want to see more Teen
Commission presence at Commission meetings, the Neighborhood Events Program is a
great success.

At 8:50pm the Teen Commission adjourned to a REGULAR MEETING which will be held on September 26,
2018 at 6:00pm at Quinlan Community Center, 10185 N. Stelling Rd. Cupertino, CA 95014 .
