Cupertino, CA 95014 CALL TO ORDER@ 6:09pm PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE ROLL CALL APPROVED MINUTES Commissioners Present: Rajaram, Lau, Shearin, Chan, Tan, Krishnan Tardy: N/A Absent: Sahni, Subramanyarn, Vemula Staff Present: Daniel Mestizo MINUTES FROM PREVIOUS MEETING 1. Tune 26, 2018 -Commissioner Rajaram motions to approve minutes. Commissioner Madhavan seconds motion. Motion passes unanimously . WRITTEN/ORAL COMMUNICATIONS • Commissioner Jemtifer Shearin provided information regarding the proposed Regnart Creek Trail and the ne x t City Council meeting in which the trail would be discussed. OLD BUSINESS 2. Bobatino (Teen Destress Event) Commissioners discussed Bobatino, a new event initiative which is being collaboratively planned with the Cupertino Mayor and City staff. The event will have local milk tea vendors with some r ecreational activities for teens to enjoy. Event is planned for Saturday, September 15th and will be at Main Street Park. The commission reviewed potential vendors, giveaways, registration format, and activities. o Local youth, David Dang, gave his input on the idea and made suggestions for the Teen Commission to consider. 3. Teen Stress Media Contest The Commission made the decision to table the contest until the 2018-2019 Teen Commission term begins with the new commissioners. 4. 2018-2019 Youth Programming Commissioners made a recommendation on the new Youth Activity Board program which would focus on organizing events for you th and teens ages 11-18. The Y AB would have a Teen Commission liaison which would visit and provide insight. The Teen Commission would continue focus on local and sta te policies, vol unteering, advising City Council and City staff, and being the primary voice for youth and teens in Cupertino. The YAB will work collaboratively with the Teen Commission and be focused on youth/teen activities and events, which would support th e Teen Commission's goal of addressing teen stress. NEW BUSINESS 5. Commissioner Succession Plan Staff informed the current Teen Commissioners to begin compiling words of wisdom and advice for incoming commissioners. STAFF & COMMISSION REPORTS a) Staff Liaison Report Daniel Mestizo presented the Teen Commission with the following information: o Teen Leadership Dinner -August 9 th at 7pm. Teen Commissioners are invited to attend. o Commissioner's Dinner -August 15 th at 6:30pm. Staff reminded commissioners to RSVP. o Day at the Capitol -final notice to RSVP was given. b) Commissioner Report • NIA. MISCELLANEOUS -NO ACTION REQUIRED ADJOURNMENT At 8:23 pm the Teen Commission adjourned to a REGULAR MEETING which will be held on August 22, 2018 at 6:00pm at Quinlan Community Center, 10185 N. Stelling Rd . Cupertino, CA 95014.
