Teen 02-14-2018 CUPERTINO Cupertino Teen Commission REGULAR MEETING Wednesday,February 14,2018 6:00 pm _ Quinlan Community Center,Conference Room 10185 N.Stelling Rd,Cupertino,CA 95014 APPROVED MINUTES CALL TO ORDER a 6:12pm PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE ROLL CALL Commissioners Present: Sahni,Rajaram, Lau,Shearin,Tan,Krishnan, Subramanyam,Vemula Tardy:N/A Absent: Chan Staff Present: Mestizo MINUTES FROM PREVIOUS MEETING 1. Tanuary 24,2017—Commissioner Raj aram motions to approve minutes. Commissioner Krishnan seconds motion. Motion passes unanimously. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS • None OLD BUSINESS 2. Teen Stress Video Contest—Check-in The Commission further coordinated their Teen Stress Video Contest project. Additional information was given to the commissioners about prize limitations. Commissioners gave updates on their tasks. 3. Social Host Ordinance—Presentation Staff Liaison Mestizo gave direction to the Teen Commission on the Social Host Ordinance Presentation. 4. <hack>Cupertino 2018 Planning The Commission continued planning for the hackathon. Workshops continued to be finalized and will be led by different high school organizations. Commissioners reached out to judge candidates and received responses. Staff and commissioners agreed on action items and each member will present their completion status at the next meeting. NEW BUSINESS S. Specific Plan Discussion&Outreach Catarina Kidd, a Senior Planner with the City of Cupertino,visited the Teen Commission to get their insight on the Vallco Specific Plan. The commission was informed of the property's history,the goals of this project,and the collaborative design process this initiative is taking with the community. Commissioners were asked to advertise the open forum to parent groups, other high schoolers, and any Cupertino resident who would be interested in providing feedback. 6. Cupertino High School ASB &Teen Commission Partnership Members of Cupertino High School's ASB leadership visited the Teen Commission to discuss potential collaborations between the two groups. Future partnerships were dependent upon the discussion that was going to be had with CHS'leadership team. 7. 2018 Teen Commission Projects and Youth/Teen Programs Staff Liaison Mestizo asked that commissioners begin thinking of potential projects for the 2018-2019 term to include in the 2018-2019 budget cycle. 8. Cupertino Youth Academy Staff Liaison Mestizo presented the commission with a teen leadership initiative he is coordinating for Cupertino teens. Feedback was received from the commission and will be implemented into planning wherever possible.
