MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
BICYCLE PEDESTRIAN COMMISSION
March 21st, 2018

The meeting was called to order at 7:03pm.
ROLL CALL:

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
1. The Commission approved the January 17, 2018 meeting minutes unanimously, with
Erik Lindskog absent.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
• Larry Dean spoke on an upcoming transportation forum and about bike
pumps/repair stations which are ordered for each of the CUSD Middle Schools.

OLD BUSINESS
2. Bike Boulevard Update (Stillman)
• Staff Engineer Jennifer Chu gave an update on the Bike Boulevards. Generally,
most residents wanted no parking removal, no traffic circles, and general safety
improvements. An update was given at the February City Council meeting on
specifics. Neighborhoods #1 and #5 will have repeat meetings to review
proposals as those neighborhoods had the most questions about the changes.
Implementation will be neighborhood by neighborhood.
• Commissioner Shearin brought up an issue at Mary Ave. and Meteor Dr., where
a bike boulevard begins. An idea was proposed to add a speed table along Mary.
David Stillman will be reviewing possibilities and will discuss at a future
meeting.
3. Regnart Creek Outreach and Community Support (Lyn)
• Residents who back to the trail have been concerned about the following issues
with the Regnart Trail: safety, crime, someone getting hurt on the trail, the
crossing at Blaney, fences/privacy, noise, and how to handle the culvert crossing.
C1'\o~e. A resident, Kathy Grtroe, stated that she was concerned about safety along the
Regnart Creek trail, especially the trailhead at Blaney. Also raised were concerns
about children throwing items at houses and the Blaney crossing being close to
La Mar Drive.
• On the April 23rd Regnart Trail Feasibility meeting these concerns which were
raised at the last public meeting will be addressed.
NEW BUSINESS
4. Junipero Serra Trail Update (Callander Associates)
• Dave Rubin from Callander Associates gave an overview of the project, project
goals, community outreach feedback, and feasibility studies, including plan
alternatives. Each of the major intersections were discussed. There will be a
third community meeting in June to review progress.
5. Bike to Work Day Planning
• Chelsea Biklen discussed the Pedal 4 the Planet family bike rides. Routes have
been created. This year, we will be meeting closer to the library fields instead of
in front of Stew House. Bike Valet will be available (new this year). Bike repairs
will be available before and after by Performance Bicycles. Bike powered music
performance (new this year) will also be 12-3pm. Ride leaders: Commissioners
Shearin, Eschelbeck, and Lyn. Commissioner Heller is not available . Ride leaders
should arrive between 9:00am and 9:30am. Chelsea will send out the routes and
reminders.
• There is an app to track your rides through Nat'l Bike Challenge. Cupertino
could participate and track rides, etc. to encourage more ridership.
• For Bike to Work Day, the tent for the energizer station on Stelling will be lent by
Walk Bike Cupertino. Commissioner Lyn will contact the church for approval to
use their parking lot again. Commissioners Shearin, Eschelbeck, Lyn and Heller
will staff energizer tent. Energizer station beverages and food will be discussed
at the next meeting.
