Crest awards 2019 Via written information given to the FAC staff liaison, Brian Babcock requested that the Fine Arts Commission consider moving the Distinguished Artist Award program to be under the Crest Awards. Mr. Babcock's proposal is that the commissioners would still select the winner and there would be no change to the FAC budget. The commissioners discussed the request and opined that the removal of Distinguished Artist Award from being historically paired with Emerging Artist Award would diminish the overall program. The two categories December 14, 2017 Cupertino Fine Arts Commission Page 2 work together to honor excellence in art, rather than community service which is the perceived goal of the Crest Awards. Additionally given the number of Crest Awards given each year, the commissioners opined that the emphasis on the arts, which is their mission, would be lost. The commissioners agreed that their awards programs should remain independent of any other city award program. However, the commissioners were supportive of the idea that the current year's winner of the Distinguished Artist Award be additionally honored at the crest awards, as a supplemental award.
