I ROLL CALL Commissioners Present: Commissioners Absent: Leonard, Bell, Neilsen Cali, Paizis II READING OF MINUTES of regular meeting of July 6, 1956, the following correction was noted: Item IV, delete "Loans would not be granted" following F.H.A. and insert "had announced a temporary suspension on loans". III COMMUNICATIONS A. Written 1. Santa Clara County - Boundary Commission announcements: Easterbrook #7 to San Jose Stevens Creek #1 to Los Altos - Planning Commission Summary of actions 7/5/56 Agenda 7/18 - Chairman Leonard noted the following as being of special interest: #4 - Kirkish - application for office building in Monta Vista area. #5 - Commercial zoning on Stevens Creek Road, per article in San Jose News, the County Planning Commission asks will this be another EI Camino and oan it carry the traffio? Firms are acquiring non-commercial property at low prices and tAen applying for commercial zoning. #21 - Auto wrecking yard near Highway 9 & Seagull Way. 2. League of Cities - Dinner Meeting on Highways 7/19 at Los Gatos with Frank B. Durkee, Director of Public Works of California, as guest speaker. The 13 year program of Federal Highway Aid was reviewed as related to California. Work in northern California will be done on Hwy. #40, Hwy. #99 to Oregon - with the balance going to an unnamed route in the Bay Area from San Francisco around San Jose and back to San Ramon Valley and then to Hwy. #40 near Vallejo. The Stevens Creek Freeway is not part of the program. - City of Upland -- decision on subdivision fees - was found invalid on several points. ). Ora.i, 1. 1. phone inquiry was received from a real estate ¡;¡an regar- ding heavy industrial zoning, he had no definite request or client. 2. Inquiry on a small retail lumber yard was received by p~one. The interested party is planning to cater to "hobby st.op" type of trade rather than supplying materials t~ h(l~:ng tracts. He was given a list of property with commercial zoning and was going to look around. 3. R. A. Paris (Stevens Creek Realty) filed...application... fÒl Barton Development Company...for major oil company £tation...of usual all steel construction...Tronis property on corner Rodrigues and HWy,9. The possibility of Rodri- gues Avenue being cut through in the near future was discussed. Relation of possible setbacks between Tronis - 2 - and Town & Country properties was explored, Bell moved that this service station matter š-Wõrk session in the near future; seconded Neilson and carried , - O. IV Requests for building permits which may involve policy decisions: 1. Texaco - service station on land where rezoning is not entire- ly completed. Mr. Lang of the Lang Construction Company reviewed his conversations with County personnel regarding grade, etc, He asked for assistance to get decisive street plans and grades, as they want to start construction as soon as possible. After discussion the matter was tabled until City Attorney Anderson could be consulted. 2. Cupertino Nursery: shed for peat moss reducing their actual setback. E. Uenaka brought a plot plan. This peat moss is now stored under canvas on this location. Commissioner Bell moved that a building permit be gra~ted; seconded by Commissioner Neilsen and carried , - O. COII\mlss10ner be tabled for by Commissioner V Discussion of Possible methods of operation under the pending contract between the Council and the County for various services: Chairman Leonard cited the Texaco difficulties with road lines as an example of the confusion which has occurred before. The Chairman recommended this problem be presented before theÎ Council, and that the County be asked what charges will be levied for their engineering services. After more discussion the matter was tabled. VI Discussion of impending commercial zoning in surrounding territory - San Jose along Bollinger, Highway 9 - Los Altos near Simla - County on Homestead; Stevens Creek - Santa Clara near Lawrence - Sunnyvale Chairman Leonard reviewed the above and mentioned Cupertino's approximate 100 acres of commercial zoning. Additional com- mercial zoning and/or cancellation of some of the existing commercial zoning was discussed. The effect of the uniform sales tax law regarding location of commercial properties was discussed. VII Miscellaneous 1. Rundle Company submitted a drawing for a sign on the new location of Cupertino Hardware. They would like to remove the sign on the previous location, remove the Town & County sign from the present location and erect a larger sign on their new store. Cupertino Hardware is anxious to complete the job as soon as possible. It was recommended that Rundle be advised to submit the information in the usual manner, and its prooes- sing would be expedited. 2. Mr. Forge, Chairman of the Sanitary District, advised that they are r~egotiating at the present time and they expect to start a SLwer by the first of the year. VIII ADJOURNMENT at 10:00 P.M.
