MINUTES FROM PREVIOUS MEETING
1. November 8, 2017 -Commissioner Rajaram motions to approve minutes. Commissioner
Shearin seconds motion. Motion passes unanimously.

OLD BUSINESS
2. Teen Workshops
One application was reviewed and approved by the Teen Commission. Buddying Leaders
will be the first partner and shall lead the first workshop series which is TBA. The
Commission also worked on a marketing plan for the program. The Teen Commission
requested staff to communicate with City communications team on outreach.
3. <hack> Cupertino 2018 Planning
An overview of the event was presented for new commissioners. The Commission
decided to move forward with a 13 hour hackathon. Commissioner Sahni volunteered to
reach out to local clubs for hackathon mentors.
NEW BUSINESS
4. YAC Attack Workshop Proposals
For the YAC Attack Conference, the Commission will be submitting an application to
present at the conference on 'How to Run a Hackathon'. Commissioners Vemula and
Subramanyam will be working on completing the application. The YAC Attack is a teen
leadership conference organized by Cupertino Recreation and YTRS.
5 . Youth Volunteering Initiatives
Staff Liaison Mestizo asked the Teen Commission if there is any need for volunteering
initiatives the City can provide. The Commission informed staff that schools have an
abundant amount of campus organizations which satisfy the need for volunteering.
Furthermore, if there is a need for volunteering projects or a desire for volunteering,
students are aware to visit these campus organizations for opportunities .
6. Teen Stress Awareness
After a brainstorming session, the Commission decided to move forward with a video
contest on addressing Teen Stress. The goal is to make a video that would play at
Cupertino Recreation events, school functions, and other events where parents are
present. Preliminary logistics and outreach was discussed and assignments were given.

Daniel Mestizo presented the Teen Commission with the following information:

b) Commissioner Report
• Commissioner Shearin presented the following notes from the Safe Routes 2
School meeting:
o Regnart Creek Trail project was introduced and community feedback will
be requested.
• Commissioner Sahni debriefed the commission on the presentation at the Public
Safety Forum. A local high school secretary was in attendance and is hoping to
organize a meeting between the principal and commissioners.

ADJOURNMENT
At 8:49pm the Teen Commission adjourned to a SPECIAL MEffiNG which will be held on
Wednesday, December 6th at 6:00pm in the Conference Room of the Quinlan Community Center,
10185 North Stelling Road, Cupertino.
