Santa Clara County Planning Commission _ Summary of the meeting of 2-20-57 and agenda for 3-6-57 2, McIlroy application for C-I-H zoning at the meeting of March 6, 1957. County Planning requests the Cupertino opinion since the site is on Stevens Creek Hoad near Portal Avenue. 'l'he Cupertino Planning Commission opposed the applicatiOj on the grounds that it did not conform to the Cupertino plan and a letter to that effect was promptly dispatched, 3. Office of County Executive - Announcement of "Workshop" , joint meeting of Planning Commissions l. '-10-57, 7 :30 P ,M. Rosa Street chambers, It was proposed that a letter be drafted accepting Mr. Pitman's invitation, at the same time suggesting a toplc or topics for discussion, 4. California Roadside Council - Two letters on billboard legislation. 5. Bay area Air Pollution Control Board _ Report on Advisory Council 2-20-57. 6. Tri-County Planning Commission and other neighboring agencies are sponsoring a meeting on Bay Area Regional Planning. 7. Statistics on building permits for February from County, E. Q.!:ê1. - None IV UNFINISHED BUSINESS A, ~tica - Continuation. Inquiry on neighborhood shopping center on Blaney and Bollinger, Chairman Leonard reported that Vistica has requested postponE ment of the hearing on his rezoning application for about four months, Various uncertainties evidently prompted him tc request this delay. Commissioner Cali moved that the Planning Commission drop thf m~tter. and return the check. until Vistica initiates the 3Pplic'3.tion again. at which time the Planning Commission can reconsider the rezoning; seconded by Commissioner Neilsen, carried 4 - 0, (Mr. Bell not yet present.) Mr, Cancio protested that Vistica was being given undue consideration, He, felt that a final decision should be fortt coming at the present meeting. If Vistica decides to post- pone the hearing on subsequent occasions the protestants would have no recourse but to appear at each new hearing, he said. Commissioner Cali responded that the Planning Commissi could not prevent an application and that Vistica or anyone else would be entitled to file an application concerning this corner or any parcel in the City. Chairman Leon'3.rd explaineq that the County, in zoning the 64th unit, spent much time ' and effort and arrived at zoning units that were as logical as they could make them. ,/, , , B, Backman - Status of rezoning applicatlon for a service station at Bollinger and Highway 9. Mr. -Bac!rman announced that he and Shell Oil Company hadn't as ~ given complete oonslderation to the conditions of the rezc ., ,,1.g specified by letter. C, High ~1hool Plans at Miller Avenue - Detail and setbacks, Nothing new. V PUBLIC HEAIlING A. Damico - Request for a use permit to erect a water storage plant near a publlc utl1ity well - east side of Stelling slightly north of Garden Gate Village. The setbacks appear to be 55' frOI¡t, 6' and 35' side setbàckc Chairman Leonard mentioned that planting of trees is some- times required by the County, as well as some form of neutral palnting. Monta Vista Water Works presently services about 1200 homes. Mr, Damico anticipates a maximum of approximately 2000 which would requll'e a capacity of abou 1500 gallons per minute, 21,~ hours a day, The tank is supposed to measure 34' x 20' although there is some doubt about the 20' height, Commissioner Nei1sen moved .:t¡hat a letter be f~~1§d to Damlco~~anl1n~ the permit subject to acceptance bY~D§JlJJ£2, seconded by Commissioner Paizis, carried 4 - o. VI m;w BUSINESS A, Inquiry from Ampex Corporation regarding a use permlton the Old School Bul1ding, Stevens Creek Road near El Vista. Proposed use: Training School for electronics workers, Chairman Leonard said that Ampex Corporation was currently netting :¡¡)OO, 000 to 1.400,000 a year after taxes, The Company would like to acquire about five acres on a lease purchase plan. They prefer a site close to Westinghouse Corporation, The projected Stevens Creek Freewya is one reason for seeking a site in Cupertino, The Company antici- pates expansion and hopes to acquire a site soon and start construction almost immedlately, They expect to complete construction in five months, A lengthy resolution concerning the Ampex problem was pre- sented to the Planning Commission, Commissioner Bell moved that the resolutton be adopted and that a coPY be mailed to the persons stipulated in Section IV of the resolution; seconded by Commissioner Palzis carried 5-0 B, Inquiry from Steve Balas regarding rezoning and use permit on the two lots southwest corner of Highway 9 and McClellan, Proposed use: Drive-In Restauran~. Mr. Balas was present to say that this corner is an ideal site for a hamburger drive-in, He will provide sufficient parklng, at least thirty spaces. Chalrman Leonard explained that oonditions for approval would include storm drain easement, road dedication sufficient to make Higlrnay 9 1201, 60' each side of the center line, and McClellan Road 90', 45' each side of center line, and a sewer contrlòution satisfactory to the Cupertino Sanitary District. He acknowledged that these conditions sometimes make a particu. lar parcel less choice. Mr. Balas was advised to check wit! Otis Forge concerning the sewer matter and to determine where his lot line would lie after deeding the neoessary frontage; he was also asked to see Coµncl1man Saich concern- lng storm'drainage and then to file<f'ormal appHcation when ready. C. Request by Councilman Lindenmeyer for Planning Commission views on an eventual site for park and civic center, Members of the Planning Commission feel that school grounds should serve as playground areas of the City. The City hall itself could locate on a small site. D. Miscellaneous Mr. Geyer presented new plans for his proposed apartment houses on Miller just south of Stevens Creek Road. Mr, Gey€ plans to build on an FHA loan, one unit at a time, In response to a question conoerning the business connections of the potential occupants, Mr. Geyer said that industry may be holdlng :back for lack of quarters.
