Stelling Rd, Cupertino, CA 95014 APPROVED MINUTES CALL TO ORDER@ 6:11pm PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE ROLL CALL Commissioners Present: Sahni, Chan, Krishnan, Subramanyam, Vemula Tardy: Tan Absent: Shearin, Rajaram, Lau Staff Present: Mestizo MINUTES FROM PREVIOUS MEETING 1. October 11, 2017 -Commissioner Sahni motions to approve minutes. Commissioner Subramanyam seconds motion. Motion passes. Commissioner Shearin, Rajaram, Lau were absent for vote. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS • None OLD BUSINESS 2. 2017-2018 Work Plan Discussion Commissioners were presented with a draft of the 2017-2018 work plan document. The commission discusses changes and the decision was made to wait until all members were present to adopt the 17-18 work plan. NEW BUSINESS 3. Spare the Air/YES Conference Presentation Kenneth McKellar from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District visited the commission to promote the Youth for Environment and Sustainability (YES) Conference being held on Saturday, February 24th at Laney College in Oakland. The commission agreed to go and will submit waivers at the following meeting. 4. HBV Presentation Item is being moved to the November 8tti meeting at the request of the presenter. 5. Teen Workshops The Teen Workshops initiative and potential workshop topics were discussed. Commission decided there would need to be an application process and the commission would review applicants to select the workshops. Staff Liaison Mestizo informed the commission of volunteer policies. Commissioners Krishnan and Subramanyam will be working on the application and present it at the next meeting. 6. Teen Commission and Tree Lighting A potential partnership with the City's Tree Lighting event was discussed . Staff Liaison Mestizo informed the commission of event pricing, location, and logistics. 7. November and December Meetings November meetings will be held on November 8th and 22nd as planned. December meetings will be discussed at next meeting. 8. <hack> Cupertino 2018 Preliminary Planning New commissioners were informed of <hack> Cupertino and the event logistics. Improvements were discussed and it was decided to keep the logo color scheme. The Teen Commission's role will be to begin teen outreach, marketing, and acquiring mentors. Staff will work on City outreach, sponsorships, event planning, and staffing for the event. More improvements and changes will be brought up at future meetings. 9. Teen Stress Brainstorm Commissioner Sahni motions to move the item to the November 8th meeting. Commissioner Chan second motion. Motion passes. Commissioner Shearin, Rajaram, Lau were absent for vote. STAFF & COMMISSION REPORTS a) Staff Liaison Report Daniel Mestizo presented the Teen Commission with the following information: • Young Naturalist program at McClellan Ranch started this fall with much successes. • The Teen Center has "Monthly Food Features" in which a different food item is featured and given out to drop-in participants. • D·ecember 19th -the Teen Commission will present their work plan to the Cupertino City Council. All commissioners are expected to be present. b) Commissioner Report • None. MISCELLANEOUS -NO ACTION REQUIRED ADJOURNMENT At 8:45pm the Teen Commission adjourned to a REGULAR MEETING which will be held on Wednesday, November 8th at 6:00pm at the Quinlan Community Center, Conference Room, 10185 North Stelling Road, Cupertino.
