MINUTES FROM PREVIOUS MEETING
a) April 3, 2017 -Commissioner Lau motions to approve minutes. Commissioner Huang
seconds motion. Motion passes unanimously.
COMMUNICATIONS
a) Oral -This portion of the meeting is reserved for persons wishing to address the
commission on any matter not on the agenda. Speakers are limited to three (3) minutes
a person . In most cases, state law will prohibit the commission from making any
decisions with respect to a matter not listed on the agenda.

OLD BUSINESS
NEW BUSINESS
a) Teen Ideal roundtable discussion -Jeff Milkes, Director of Cupertino's Recreation and
Community Services Department, and Mayor Savita Vaidhyanathan lead a discussion with
the teens regarding Teen Ideal, a prospective singing competition for the youth of
Cupertino. The following input was given by members of the Teen Commission: opening
up the competition to more diverse categories, changing the name of the competition,
recommending expanding the competition to wider ages, and marketing to students in
the performing arts.
b) Green Team presentation and roundtable discussion -Cheri Donnelly and Alex Wykoff,
members of Cupertino's Green Team lead a presentation on ways they can help spread
environmental awareness and improve their community by getting involved in different
opportunities. The presentation included methods of reducing waste and the importance
of getting involved in efforts to preserve the environment. The Teen Commission will be
participating in National River Cleanup Day on May 20 th •
c) Leadership 95014 Project Roundtable Discussion -moved to later agenda since presenter
was absent.
d) Youth Empowerment Seminar presentation -Neena Bhatnagar discussed a seminar she
developed to help teens with reducing stress. Feedback was given by the Teen
Commission .
e) Hackathon Debrief -the teen commission and staff liaison debriefed on the <hack >
Cupertino event and reviewed ways to improve the event. Ideas included looking at the
judging process and looking at sponsorships.
STAFF & COMMISSION REPORTS
a) Staff Liaison Report -Daniel Mestizo presented the Teen Commission with the following
information:
• RSVP for Commissioner Dinner on May 3rd, 2017.
• At the April 4th , 2017 City Council meeting, the City Council adopted Resolution
No. 17-033 amending Resolution No. 16-138 which would authorize the
Cupertino Teen Commission to meet year-round, and would allow an extension
for all current teen commissioners until the end of August for their term ending
year.
• Teen Leadership Information Night will be on April 18 th at 6:30pm and a 1-2
commissioners were requested to lead a Q&A session for attendees.

At 8:32 pm the Teen Commission adjourned to a REGULAR MEETING which will be held on
Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 6:15 pm at the Quinlan Community Center, Conference Room,
10185 North Stelling Road, Cupertino .
