OLD BUSINESS
a) ACA 10 Voting Age
The commission expressed their v iews on the topic. Commissioner Rajaram felt ACA 10
would dilute the voting pool and that lowering the age would not make a noticeable
difference. Commissioner Reiisieh explained that there is minimal interest in 17 year olds
to vote and that social media already provides teens with a voice. Additionally, she
explained that most voters do not vote in local or state elections and this would be the
same for 17 year olds . Vice Chair A. Sahni expressed that youth learn about government
in school, which allows them to have a fresh perspective and make them more
knowledgeable than most adults who vote. Chair Reiisieh and Commissioners Rajaram
and Lau all explained that 17 year olds do not have enough insight on legislation
applicable to adults, such as taxes. Chair Reiisieh motioned for a vote on having
the Teen Commission support ACA 10. Commissioner Vadodkar seconds.
