PSC 02-08-01 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE PUBLIC: SAFETY COMMISSION HELD FEBRUARY 8, 200 CONFERENCE ROOM A, CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA 7:S0 PM I. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by the Chair, Andy Zander II. SALUTE TO THE FLAG: The Chair led the Salute. III. ROLL CALL: Commissioners Present: Zander, Darknell, Majewski, Dor Commissioners Absent: Tice Staff Present: Richard Gutierrez, Code Enforcement Chief Sporleder, Santa Clara County Fire Lieutenant Smedlund, Sheriff's Depmh~ent Lieutenant Ludcke, Sheriff's DepmU~ent Detective Powers, Sheriff's Department Deputy Ramirez, Sheriff's Depa~h~ent - Deputy Evangel, Sheriff's Depmh~lent Staff Absent: Captain Miles, Visitors Present: None IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Sanuary minutes approved. February minutes approved as submitted. V. REPORT FROM THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE: Lieutenant Smedlund introduced Lieutenant Ludcke who is one of the watch commanders that oversee both the jails and the streets. Lieutenant Ludcke gave her background and experiences in the City of Cupertino. Lieutenant Smedlund introduced Detective Powers to the Commission who explained the role of a detective and some of their job duties which include reviewing and following-up on prior cases conducted by the deputies. Lieutenant Smedlund introduced both Deputy Ramirez and Deputy Evangel who developed SHARP, a program for senior health awareness registry, which is a volunteer program for the seniors. Deputy Ramirez stated that program allows the Sheriff's Office access to the house - through a neighbor, family member or a hidden key to perform a welfare check. Public Safety Commission Minutes Regular Meeting of Feb. g, 2001 Pag© 2 Deputy Evangel described the information in the packet and what information is needed in order to p~fform a w~lfar~ ~h~k, Lieutenant Smedlund distributed and discussed a memorandum to the Commission regarding noteworthy incidents that have occurred through the month of January 2001. Lieutenant Smedlund distributed the monthly crime statistics for the month of January 2001. VI. REPORT FROM COUNTY FIRE: Chief Sporleder distributed and discussed the fire statistics for the month of December 2000. Chief Sporleder di~ibuted information describing two structure fires that had occurred in Cupertino. Chief Sporleder also described how each 911 call is rated from an A to E depending on the type of emergency. VII. COMMISSIONER REPORTS: Commissioner Darknell informed the Commission that city logo jackets could be obtained for a price of seventy-five dollars with a minimum of six jackets. Commissioner Zander informed the Commission that the Traffic Safety Committee is doing a study by monitoring the traffic from Home Depot. VIII. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS: None IX. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS: None X. OLD BUSINESS: Crossing Guard Safety will be moved until the meeting in March. XI.
