PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION HELD APRIL 12, 2001

I. CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order by the Chair, Andy Zander
II. SALUTE TO THE FLAG:
The Chair led the Salute.

Lieutenant Smedlund, Sheriff's Dep~utment

Visitors Present: None
IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
February minutes approved.
V. REPORT FROM THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE:
Lieutenant Smedlund distributed and discussed a memorandum to the Commission regarding noteworthy
incidents that have occurred through the month of March 2001.
Lieutenant Smedlund distributed the monthly crime statistics for the month of March 2001.
VI. REPORT FROM COUNTY FIRE:
Chief Sporleder distributed and discussed the fLre statistics for the month of February 2001.
Chief Sporleder distributed information on a structure fh'e that had occurred in Cupertino.
A sample letter describing the brush program was distributed to the Commission.
VII. COMMISSIONER REPORTS:
Commissioner Znnder informed the Commission that the items for the Traffic Safety Committee are on
going.
Commissioner Zander stated that in the month of June, Klm Street would be temporarily closed to measure
the traffic flow.

VIII. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS:
None
IX. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS:
A memo'from Kim Smith was distributed to the Commission on the proper use of E-mall.
X. OLD BUSINESS:
The report on Crossing Guard Safety will be moved to the work plan and postponed until the Fall.
XI. NEW BUSINESS:
The Public Safety Commission came up with some items to focus on for the annual work plan. The items
are as follows:
1) Research the plans of the Stevens Creek Trail to make sure safety issues are being met with traffic,
trespassing, graffiti and lighting.
2) Discuss the benefits of the city developing a Committee to help with school issues.
3) Art and Wine Festival
4) Discuss the monthly statistics of the Sheriff's Deparlment.
5) ,loint meeting with the Saratoga Public Safety Commission.
6) Follow-up on red light photo enforcement.
7) Meet with Emergency Preparedness to discuss the Emergency Plan.
8) Crossing guard safety.
XII. ADJOURNMENT:
The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
