Anne suggested that there be "bike in Cupertino" signs at major city border. Commission
recommends that staff look into it.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS
A letter was addressed to the commission. The commission was invited to a three-day that was a
week ago.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES - The September 15 meeting minutes were approved.
OLD BUSINESS
1. Mary Avenue Bicycle Footbridge and Mary Avenue Gateway Updates
Asst. Director Goepfert reported that since last commission meeting, not much has
changed except that the cost estimation may need to be changed since the cost of steel
and concrete has gone up 20-25%. May need to do a peer review, i.e, to get another
company to take a look at the estimates (2nd opinion) and go to VTA. This has not been
reported to City Council. Hope to present it at the 1st council meeting in December.
Community meeting may be in January to present the package once the city council sign
it off.
2. Walk/Bike to School Day
Chair Greenstein report that he made one presentations at the Senior Commission. He
encouraged seniors to be the eyes and ears at the intersection, get the words out, and help
to promote the walking school bus. The response was very good. The question is how to
get it started. Chair Greenstein also made a presentation to the PT A at Steven Creek
Elementary. The PT A is very encouraged and enthusiastic about the idea. They chose two
-1-
parents to work with David in the future. The hope is to get one school going first.
Commissioner Koski mentioned that Regnart and Lincoln Elementary are also interested.
The school may have money for such a thing. However, school cannot endorse it due to
the liability issues.
3. Street Smarts Status
City funds for Street Smart is very small, only $2500 left this year. Other cities had 40k
to launch the similar program. Commission discussed various ways to promote the Street
Smart. Suggestions include putting the material on city web, asking teen commission for
help, picking on person from commission to be trained with Linda so he/she can go out
presenting, designing upbeat, positive and happy lawn signs to be purchased by the
residents who is concerned with traffic, and spreading the word through public relations.
4. BPC - PSC Monta Vista High traffic letter to schools follow up
Passed letter from PSC to PBC. Some suggestions were made.

multi-purpose trail conflicts.
