MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
BICYCLE PEDESTRIAN COMMISSION
October 19 1h, 2016
CUPERTINO
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m.
ROLL CALL:

Absent: Gary Jones, Sean Lyn

ORDERS OF THE DAY
1) Staff Report (Stillman)
a. Staff selected a consultant for Cupertino Pedestrian Plan update:
1. City Budget exists for the plan
11. Community, BPC input for pedestrian plan needed and will
leverage similar process as for Bike plan
111. No specific timeline. No outside deadline exists for funding
procurement, etc.
1v. Byron -How can we help with outreach to community? David -
Will be reaching out and collaborate.
2) Receive VTA BPAC Report (Jones)-Not available, Commissioner Jones not
attending
3) Receive Public Relations Subcommittee Report (Heller) -Not available
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
4) Commission approved the September 21, 2016 minutes .
OLD BUSINESS
5) Bike Rodeo Debrief (All)
a. Attendance declining; many similar events held by individual schools;
Commissioner Heller recommends this be dropped for next year. Other
commissioners agreed.
b. City Bike Ride portion of the event better participated in; should continue.
c. Next City Bike Ride event-April 2017 on Earth Day
1. Need more chaperons to handle large groups
11. Consider adding stops along the way
111. Take these as considerations when planning next year's event
6) Updates to BPC Items Catalog (Lindskog)
a. No updates
7) 2016 Bike Plan Implementation (Stillman)
a. Toole Design Group was in town and held kick off meeting
b. _Survey and concept design for Stevens Creek Blvd. and McClellan Rd. and
some residential streets underway
i. (E-W routes parallel to Stevens Creek), McClellan from Foothill-
DeAnza, Pacifica and on in that direction
c. Did a survey two full days along Stevens Creek Blvd.
d. Toole Design Group will present findings next meeting or the meeting
after that
e. UPRR trail assessment will kick off in the spring with a feasibility study
f. Will start bike and pedestrian way finding project in a month
g. Commissioner Aiyer asked how the bike education component of the plan
would be handled:
i. CUSD have agreed to bike education in the 6th grade for all
schools. Chelsea has been instrumental in getting that engagement
11. David Stillman asked BPC to make recommendations for
additional community education programs (Commissioner Aiyer
took that as an action to follow up)
8) Biking on Sidewalk Ordinance (Stillman)
a. Several edits were suggested that will be considered into the next revision
of the ordinance
b. To be reviewed by the BPC in a future meeting

a . December meeting scheduling
10) Next Meeting -Information -November 16, 2016, 7:00 p.m.
