06.02.16 Approved PRC Minutes1 PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION CITY OF CUPERTINO Regular Meeting MINUTES Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. Community Hall, 10350 Torre Ave., Cupertino, CA Note: This meeting will be televised CALL TO ORDER Chair Stanek called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Hall Council Chamber, 10350 Torre Ave., Cupertino, CA. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE ROLL CALL Commissioners present: David Fung, Helene Davis, Carol Stanek, Neesha Tambe Commissioners absent: Judy Wilson Staff present: Gail Seeds, Liz Nunez, Rebecca Shaefer ORAL COMMUNICATIONS Email submitted by Noel Eberhardt, Cupertino resident APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Regular meeting of May 5, 2016 Chair Stanek’s comments were left off and now added to Minutes. Commissioner Fung moved to approve the amended minutes of May 5, 2016. Commissioner Tambe seconded and motion passed. Commissioner Wilson absent at voting. STAFF AND COMMISSION REPORTS Gail Seeds, Park Restoration and Improvement manager submitted report for May-August:  5/7 - Cupertino Day  5/14 - World Journal Festival  5/17 - Budget Study Session  5/23 - City Wide Park, Open Space & Recreation MP – Special meeting with PRC  5/23 – RHAA-Stakeholder interview with S.C. County Parks  6/1 - CREST Awards  6/2 – starts Summer Concert Series – every Thursday evening until 7/14;6:30- 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Park- Amphitheatre 2  6/13 – Block Leaders Intercept event for City Wide Park, Open Space & Recreation MP  6/24 – World’s Largest Swim Lesson – Cupertino HS Pool – 10:00 – 10:30 a.m.  July 4 –Quinlan – Various activities starting 7 a.m. Pancake breakfast, Carnival and music at Memorial Park, Blackberry Farm free swimming and food trucks until 5:00 p.m.  Shakespeare in the Park -7:30 p.m. at Memorial Park – SF Shakespeare Festival – starts 7/23-8/7 on weekends  8/2 – National Night Out – Target Parking lot – 4:00-6:00 p.m.  8/12 & 8/19 – Cinema at Sundown – Memorial Park – 8:15 p.m.  8/13 – Kids N’Fun Festival – Taiwanese Cultural & Sports Assn. – Memorial Park Commission Reports: Commissioner Davis attended Cupertino Day and Commissioners dinner. Commissioner Fung attended Cupertino Day intercept event, Leadership 95014 graduation, Commission dinner and Special Meeting for Citywide Park Open Space Master Plan. Chair Stanek attended Cupertino Day intercept event. Went on City’s Public Works tour. Attended the Special Meeting for Citywide Park Open Space Master Plan, Commissioner dinner and Mayor’s meeting. Commissioner Tambe attended Special Meeting for Citywide Park Open Space Master Plan. NEW BUSINESS 2. Perfect Mind – System Conversion update – Rebecca Shaefer, staff project manager for software system reported on status of conversion. Perfect Mind will be on site the week of June 13 to meet with key City staff and department staff. Projected to go Live Winter of 2017. 3. International Movie Pilot Program update – Staff reported that in partner- ship with Library, a foreign movie is scheduled to be shown in October at the Civic center on large screen. Movie to be determined. 4. Parks Make Life Better marketing event – “Flash mob” to occur before two outdoor events at Memorial park on 6/30 and 7/14. Flyers have been distributed by Zumba class instructor at Sports Center to recruit participants. OLD BUSINESS 5. Citywide Park, Open Space and Recreation Master Plan update- 3 Staff reported that lawn signs have been installed at different locations throughout the City to encourage everyone to complete survey. Extended deadline for survey to 7/13/16. Held intercept event on Cupertino Day at BBF. Presented to Teen Commission and Senior Advisory group. Upcoming Block Leader workshop on 6/13 at Quinlan. Discussion followed. 6. 2015-16 Work Plan July 7 meeting to be canceled due to lack of business. Commissioner Davis moved to cancel meeting and Commissioner Fung seconded and motion passed. Commissioner Wilson absent voting. August 4th meeting will be held at the Senior Center to discuss new fiscal year work plan. Before adjourning Commissioners acknowledged and recognized Carol Atwood’s extensive accomplishments in the department the past three years working with the Commission.
