Stelling Rd, Cupertino, CA 95014 APPROVED MINUTES CALL TO ORDER@ 6:09pm PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE ROLL CALL Commissioners Present: Gundu, Huang, Lau, Rajaram, Reiisieh, A. Sahni, S. Sahni, Vadodkar, Yang Staff Present: Mestizo MINUTES FROM PREVIOUS MEETING a) May 25, 2016 -Commissioner Yang motions to approve minutes. Commissioner Vadodkar seconds motion. Motion passes unanimously. COMMUNICATIONS a) Oral -Joe Posadas from the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters visited the Teen Commission to present information on ways teens can get involved in the voting process as poll workers. b) Written STAFF & COMMISSION REPORTS NEW BUSINESS a) Oath of Office by Deputy City Clerk, Kirsten Squarcia -the Oath of Office was administered incoming commissioners, delivered information on Brown Act and meeting attendance requirement. b) Commission's role in relation to the City of Cupertino, Public Affairs Office a. Assistant to the City Manager, Jaqui Guzman, spoke with the commissioners regarding the importance of their role as City officials and representatives. b. Community Outreach Specialist, Colleen Lettire, presented with the commission the efforts being made by Cupertino with social media and branding. Their input in future events and targeting the youth and teen population was highlighted. c) Teen Commission Overview a. Expectations and role of commission -Staff Liaison reviewed commissioner expectations and meeting behavior b. Calendar overview - a calendar of events and important dates was presented and will be used as reference MOTION: Meeting Time MOTION: Vadodkar -7 SECONDED: Rajaram ACTION: YES I VOTE: YES I 6 to 3 Commissioner Vadodkar motioned to move meetings to 6: 15pm. Commissioner Rajaram seconded the motion. Votes taken, 6 votes for changing time and 3 votes for not. Majority in favor to move timing to 6:15pm c. Chair & Vice Chair Roles -Staff Liaison Mestizo discussed the duties and skills expected of the Chair and Vice Chair. d) Pizza and Politics 2017 Discussion -Staff Liaison provided a status update to the teen commission and discussed their role in the event. e) 2016-2017 Work Plan Discussion and brainstorm -the commission brainstormed ideas to be decided upon at a later meeting. OLD BUSINESS MISCELLANEOUS -NO ACTION REQUIRED ADJOURNMENT At 8:23 pm the Teen Commission adjourned to a REGULAR MEETING held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at 6: 15 pm at Quinlan Community Center, Conference Room, 10185 North Stelling Road, Cupertino.
