OLD BUSINESS
Subcommittee Reports
a. Pedestrian Transportation Plan: Phil made suggestions for changes and added an
introduction piece. Joe incorporated them into the plan and handed a copy to Ray for distribution.
Phil pointed out the Portland Pedestrian Master Plan has some features we may want to use, like
their section on "Pedestrian Efficiency Factors". Ray recommended getting committee approval
in August, then presenting the plan to City Council for approval in September.
b. Bicycle Transportation: Ray is looking at bike signs with schematic route maps (VT A SG- I). He
recommended putting the routes to Va1co Shopping Mall, DeAnza College, and City Center.
c. Cycle Commute Cupertino: Anne is still reviewing company commuters to determine a company
winner. High school participation was not measured so there will be no award. Joe suggested
framing the CCC poster and putting it up in City Hall's "Wall of Fame" as recognition of the
event.
d. Mary Avenue Bicycle Foot Bridge: Ray sent out announcements on postcards notifying residents
and businesses of the foot bridge project. He collected many positive and a few negative
responses. A planning meeting will be held in City Hall on July 27. Joe said Measure A/B will
pay 80% of the cost, Byron Sher is kicking in $500K, and the remaining $200K will come from
the city.
e. Union Pacific Railroad Trail: Ray will call Lisa Killough, with County Rec and Parks, to
determine the next step. He will set a meeting date in August with Anne and David attending.

with Jana Sokale and CUBPAC members.
Santa Clara Transportation Authority Reports
a. Bicycle Advisory Committee: Joe says the county is hiring Michelle DeRobertas to look at the
Page Mill at Rt 280 bike crossing problem.
b. Valley Transportation Plan 2020 - Bicycle Element: Joe reported the VTA BAC approved a
funding plan for HOV lane, BART, and general road improvements. The plan is going to the
County Supervisors for a vote to put it on the ballot in November.
Capital Improvements Projects & Neighborhood Traffic Calming Measures Reports
a. Stevens Canyon Road: Ray reports the project is due to start in October, but due to
seasonal requirements they might not get far. He suspects the project will be delayed until Spring
2001.
b.
Bike Lanes: Signs and lines will be added to Miller Avenue, South Stelling, and
DeAnza Blvd between Rt 85 and Prospect.
Traffic Calming Projects: All are funded as planned.
c.
Bikes Belong Grants
Ray visited the principal at Monte Vista High about putting in bicycle parking facilities. The
principal proposed a temporary site since they are doing some construction over the next two
years. Ray distributed marketing literature to the committee on different types of bicycle racks
and wants feedback on which to select.
Committee vacancy
Ray created an ad requesting applicants for vacated committee positions. There will be one
