CALL TO ORDER
Chair David Fung called the meeting to order at 7:07 p.m. in the Community
Hall Council Chamber, 10350 Torre Ave., Cupertino, CA.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
ROLL CALL
Commissioners present: David Fung, Helene Davis, Carol Stanek, Judy Wilson
Commissioners absent: Neesha Tambe
Staff present: Carol Atwood, Liz Nunez, Gail Seeds, Colleen Ferris
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
Noel Eberhardt, Cupertino resident, spoke regarding Kennedy Middle School
field use on Sunday mornings. Submitted letter to Commission.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
1. Regular meeting of December, 3, 2015
Vice Chair Wilson moved to approve the minutes of December 3, 2015.
Commissioner Davis seconded and motion passed. Commissioner Tambe
absent at voting.
2. Special Meeting of Joint Parks & Recreation and Bicycle Pedestrian
Commissions for December 15, 2015
Commissioner Stanek moved to approve the amended minutes of December
15, 2015. Vice Chair Wilson seconded and motion passed. Commissioner
Tambe absent at voting.
STAFF AND COMMISSION REPORTS
Director of Recreation and Community Services, Carol Atwood re-capped
November and December 2015 events:
□ Sports Center - Completed the multi-purpose sports court; lighting and
resurfacing the west side tennis courts
□ Joint Cities Coordinated Stevens Creek Trail Feasibility study - Joint
meeting with Bicycle Pedestrian and Parks & Recreation Commissions
held on 12/15/15
□ Began Senior Center landscape project and dance floor redo

□ Successful Christmas tree lighting and Breakfast with Santa events
□ Library Commission transitioned to Recreation and Community Services
as Liaison
□ Kick off of City wide Park and Open Space Master Plan process
Upcoming January 2016:
□ Quinlan Center: Cupertino Room-final upgrades-painting and lighting
□ Senior Center: Completion of Mary Avenue landscape project and dance
floor redone
□ Sports Center open house and ribbon cutting on 1/9/16
□ Completed negotiations with PerfectMIND for the new recreation
software system
□ Study session scheduled with Council 1/19/16 regarding Rotary proposal
to renovate Stocklmeir property
□ Obtained permission for soils testing for the Lawrence Mitty property
□ Citizens Corps appreciation event on 1/11/16
Commission Reports:
Commissioners Stanek, Davis and Fung attended the Christmas Tree Lighting
event at Quinlan. Chair Fung attended Breakfast with Santa and the first Mayor’s
meeting January 6. Commissioner Wilson checked out the new lighting in the
Cupertino room at Quinlan.
NEW BUSINESS
3. Cupertino Sports Center Update – Colleen Ferris
Colleen presented programs and new changes to sports center. Invited
Commission to open house and ribbon cutting on 1/9/16.
4. Citywide Park Open Space Master Plan Progress Update
Gail Seeds reported on discussions and tours of City parks, fields and
facilities that consultant and staff completed to date. Upcoming schedule are
intercept events, stakeholder interviews, community surveys, launching
outreach via website, social media and on-line surveys. Gail presented draft
of survey questions. Discussion followed.
OLD BUSINESS
5. 2015-16 Work Plan
Carol Atwood reviewed current plan and no changes were made.
ADJOURNMENT – Chair Fung adjourned the meeting at 8:11 p.m.
