MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
BICYCLE PEDESTRIAN COMMISSION
SZ.'93, October 21St, 2015

The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m.

ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
Viraj Shitole is a 9th grader at Monta Vista High School. He proposed a plan to
connect Orion Ln. and Vai Ave. The purpose is to divert the traffic to and from
the tri-school area (Monta Vista, Kennedy, and Lincoln). His plan will be
considered when the new Bicycle Plan is developed.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS
ORDERS OF THE DAY
1) Staff Report (Stillman)
a. David described the work plan on how the City, the Commission and the
public will work with the consultant. The first public meeting will be held
on December 1st.
b. David informed the Commission that funding application to VTA was not
recommended by VTA decision. This causes some impact of the bicycle
plan funding.
2) Received VTA BPAC Report (Wiant)
a. Jim informed the Commission about two major projects going on at 237,
which is outside of the Cupertino city boundary.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
3) The Commission approved the September 16th, 2015 minutes unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS
4) Bike Rodeo Debrief
a. Less people attended this year and the Commission concluded the reason
was insufficient advertisement. The Commission came up with a check
list of communication channels for next year references.

• Nextdoor.com
• Neighborhood bike shops
• City Library
• City websites
• YMCA
• City Senior Center
• Quinlan Center
• City Teen Center/Sports Center
• Etc.
b. A bicycle repair station was strongly recommended for next year during
the meeting.
c. More varieties of activities are also suggested.
5) Updates to the BPC Items Catalog/Hot List
a. Status: In progress.
NEW BUSINESS
6) Reconsideration of Allowing Bicycling on Sidewalks
a. Pete shares his concerns on streets that have poor or no bike lanes. The
Commission discussed whether to allow older kids to ride on the
sidewalks. The Commission does not want to encourage or advocate
bicyclists to ride on sidewalks.
b. The Commission is fully aware of the problems on streets with poor or no
bike lane design. Improvements will be focus items in the new City
Bicycle Plan.
7) Consideration of "Bikes May Take Full Lane" Signage
a. The Commission has recommended better signage.
8) Website Update Discussion
a. The Commission reviewed the contents and approved with suggestions
on minor editorial changes and adding more photos.
