MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
BICYCLE PEDESTRIAN COMMISSION
April 151h12015
CUPERTINO
The meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m.
ROLL CALL:

ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
• Larry Dean provided an update on Walk Bike Cupertino group, up to 300
members now. Group is keen to assist walkibike improvements. One suggestion
is to add signage to destination of interest. David Stillman suggested the group
propose a map of desired signage to highlight public destinations around the
city.
• Frank Geefay suggested the City look for cheaper alternative paint to current
material used in green bike lanes. City is looking into that already, but it needs
to be more durable than regular paint.
• Frank Geefay commended the BPC for exploring class-1 bike routes as part of
bike plan.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS
ORDERS OF THE DAY
1) Staff Report: April 7 City Council Meeting Debrief
a. Council approved ban on trucks>3 tons on streets fronting schools during
school times. Update to signage will be undertaken to make this ban
effective in 45 days from passage.
Erin Cooke presented update on City-school partnership. Council passed
resolution to address bike-ped safety via this partnership. School board
has been approached to adopt similar resolution. Next steps would be to
reach out to school principals.
2) Received Jan 2015 VTA BPAC report (Jim Wiant)
Assembly bill 1193 signed into law Sep 2014 establishes Class 4 protected
bikeway type and requires Caltrans to develop design guidelines/standard by
1/1/2016:
Having a statewide standard in place will enable the BPC to seek such bike paths
in the Cupertino bike plan.

3) Commission approved the March 18th, 2015 minutes as amended.
OLID BUSINESS
4) Bike to Work Day Planning
a. Commissioner Lyn is coordinating preparations.
b. Whole Foods to provide refreshments this year.
5) Bike Rodeo Planning
a. When: Oct 2, 9-12
b. Where: City Hall parking lot
c. Safe Moves will host the program
d. Marketing/PR plan: Recology flyer, Cupertino Scene, other venues as per
staff's recommendations
NEW BUSINESS
6) 2016 Bicycle Transportation Plan Discussion
a. City plans to hire a Bike/Ped consultant to create an updated bike plan
from the currently approved BPC bike plan.
b. MOTION:
Commissioner Jones made a motion for BPC to support staff in hiring
process for consultant. Commissioner Heller seconded the motion. One or
more commissioners will participate in selection process.
Motion passed unanimously.
