Teen 02-25-2015 1 CUPERTINO Cupertino Teen Commission Regular Meeting Wednesday, February 25, 2015 6:30 pm Quinlan Community Center, Preschool Room 10185 North Stelling Road, Cupertino CA 95014 APPROVED MINUTES CALL TO ORDER at 6:35pm PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE ROLL CALL Commissioners present: Chan, Fung, Murphy, Prasad, Smithline, Sriraman, Swamy, Trivedi, Yun Commissioners absent: N/A Staff present: Jahns MINUTES FROM PREVIOUS MEETING A) February 11, 2015 — Delete typo (PM listed twice) in adjournment time. Upon correction of typo, Commissioner Yun motions to approve minutes. Commissioner Murphy seconds motion. Motion passes unanimously. COMMUNICATIONS a) Oral b) Written NEW BUSINESS a) Commissioner contacts in the community—Commissioner Sriraman attended monthly Mayor's meeting on February 4tH b) General Plan Amendment involvement— Gary Chao (Assistant Director, Community Development) and Rebecca Tolentino (Senior Planner, Community Development) gave presentation on status of the General Plan Amendment and what will be taking place at the March 17 City Council Meeting. Encouraged commissioners to complete and promote the online survey, "The Community Online Survey #2 - Building Heights and Community Benefits."Council Member Vaidhyanathan polled the commissioners on what their current thoughts were on residing in Cupertino and their likelihood to return to Cupertino after college. c) City-wide social media outreach —Colleen Lettire (Office Assistant, City Manager's Office) gave presentation on the City's current efforts and future plans for social media outreach. Commissioners provided feedback on the likelihood of their demographic to take part in these efforts and brainstormed potential ideas to get youth and teens more involved. OLD BUSINESS a) Walk One Week: Update from subcommittee—Commissioner Trivedi provided an update from attending the Public Safety Commission meeting on February 12tH. Commissioner Sriraman motions to request financial and personnel assistance from the Public Safety r Commission on March 12. Commissioner Fung seconds motion. Motion passes unanimously. WOW subcommittee members will attend Public Safety Commission meeting on March 12 to provide update on grant applications and officially request assistance in implementing Walk One Week, March 31 —April 4. b) Intergenerational event: "Sounds of the City"—Commissioner Murphy provided update from her facility walkthrough and meeting with Senior Center staff. "Monta Vista High School Jazz Band"and "OJ Squeeze and the Well Balanced Breakfast" have been confirmed as musical performers for the event. c) Ted Talks Forum: Facility and speakers update—Commissioner Yun provided update on facility. Will confirm availability of the Monta Vista Theater at March 11 Teen Commission Meeting. d) Y.A.C. Social logistics— Staff Liaison Jahns provided transportation update and agenda for the Y.A.C. social on March 6. Commissioners were provided waiver release forms for the event. STAFF AND COMMISSION REPORTS ADJOURNMENT At 8:56 pm the Teen Commission adjourned to a REGULAR MEETING on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 6:30 pm at Quinlan Community Center, 10185 N.
