OLD BUSINESS
1. Minutes from the special meeting on June 23rd, 2014.
These have not been completed yet and were carried to next meeting.
2. Public Art Catalog.
Chair Sanchez indicated that the KMVT Show was recorded at which the Public Art
Catalog was shared and he indicated that a copy of the show would be available for
the City Channel upon editing. He also said he would send a link to the show when
it is available.
3. Distinguished and Emerging Artist Updates
The venue of the presentation of the Distinguished and Emerging Artist awards was
discussed and it was finalized to be at the Fine Arts League of Cupertino (FALC)
Fall Juried Show as opposed to the Shakespeare in the Park Opening Night. A
plaque and award money will be given to each recipient at the show. Ms. Ghosh
indicated that Ms. Kershner, the recipient of the Distinguished Artist Award may
not be at the award ceremony due to a conflict but may send a representative to

collect the award on her behalf. More details are expected from Ms. Kershner. It is
expected that both award recipients will have displays at the FALC show. The
Distinguished and Emerging Artists will be listed on the website.

League of Cupertino to see if an application is expected.
NEW BUSINESS
5. Emerging Artist Program Refinement
Ms. Ghosh indicated that based on the applications received for the Emerging Artist
and Distinguished Artists, it appeared that there were several artists that submitted
artwork that did not quite fit the category of Emerging Artist. These artists are
middle school children who showed talent but could not compete with the almost 30
year old Emerging Artist. With that in mind, the question was posed about whether
the Commission might be interested in a third category of Awards or a separate Art
competition or other venue to motivate artists of this age.
Chair Sanchez agreed and Commissioners Mahalingam and Kaur indicated that
they felt bad that they had to judge these applicants against the more mature artists.
Commissioners Matley and Leong also felt a need for a separate venue for these
artists. There was a discussion about having either a separate art competition,
potentially in conjunction with the Euphrat Museum or the City sponsored festivals
such as Fall Festival or Earth Day. This discussion was continued to the Work
Program discussions.
