MINUTES FROM PREVIOUS MEETING
A) December 10, 2014 - Commissioner Yun motions to approve minutes. Commissioner
Prasad seconds motion. Motion passes unanimously.
COMMUNICATIONS
a) Oral — N/A
b) Written —West Valley Community Services provided a thank you card to the Teen
Commission for their fundraising efforts for the Giving Tree Campaign.
NEW BUSINESS
a) Commissioner contacts in the community - Commissioner Sriraman spoke with Pooja Baxi
from Monta Vista High School's Green Society about opport�nities to partner for Walk-
One-Week. Staff Liaison Jahns attended the Sports Center and Teen Center Open House
on January 10, 2015.
b) Intergenerational event discussion —Recreation Coordinator, Justin Cecil and Senior
Center volunteer representative, Alice Endter attended to collaborate on planning for an
intergenerational event at the Senior Center. Event will take place in early April and will
focus on either music or art, not both. Alice and Justin will take the ideas to the Senior
Center Volunteer Advisory Council for a recommendation on the theme and date.
c) Walk-One-Week: Timeline and partnerships— Pooja Baxi from Monta Vista High School's
Green Society gave a summary of what was completed in years' past and provided
insight into how the Teen Commission can become involved in this year's process. The
Green Society recommends that the event take place in collaboration with their county-
wide efforts during the last week in March or 2`"'week in April. Commissioner Trivedi will
be the lead for Walk-One-Week subcommittee.
OLD BUSINESS
a) Ted Talks forum: Date and format—Commissioners will reach out to potentiai speakers
and report back at January 28�' meeting. Staff Liaison Jahns will look into facility
availability for late April.
b) Teen Center name update and facility improvements—Teen Center new name will be put
on hold until it is decided whether Teen Center will be remaining in same location. Teen
Center staff made furniture and equipment upgrades prior to the Sports Center Open
House.
