BPC 12-08-2014 (Special) MINUTES MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BICYCLE PEDESTRIAN COMMISSION December 8th, 2014 CUPERTINO The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. ROLL CALL: Present: William Chan, Pete Heller, Jill Mitsch, Sean Lyn Absent: Vidula Aiyer Staff: David Stillman Others Present: Jim Wiant, Frank Geefay, Karen Geefay, Gary Jones, Larry Dean, Andrea Grindeland ORAL COMMUNICATIONS Gary Jones inquired about bicycle routes passing through the lands belonging to the water district. It is considered a long term goal as the city does not have the ownership and communication may take long. Larry Dean informed the Commission that De Anza College will consider removing the block on McClellan Rd. Dean is also working on funding for bike repair stations. Frank Geefay proposed a 30 minute traffic block during school commuting times. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS ORDERS OF THE DAY 1) Staff Report (Stillman) Installation of Sharrows on McClellan and Foothill were started. Green bike lanes on Tantau are implemented with different pavement material, which is also anti-slip and reflective. The Tantau green lane is funded by Apple Inc. The Commission suggested constant monitoring of the slipperiness caused by water osmosis. 2) Receive VTA BPAC Report (Wiant) APPROVAL OF MINUTES 3) The Commission approved the October 15t", 2014 minutes unanimously. OLD BUSINESS 4) Bicycle Transportation Plan Update/Safety Workshop Debrief The Commission reviewed the plan and made suggestions. Mr. Lyn suggested prioritization over the implementation near school areas. Mr. Heller proposed the Commission should set a schedule to review the progress. NEW BUSINESS 5) Discuss Cupertino Municipal Code 11.08.180 Regarding Age Requirements for Juveniles Riding Their Bikes on the Sidewalk Action: Remain with the age requirement as described in Municipal Code 11.08.180 and apply no changes.
