MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
BICYCLE PEDESTRIAN COMMISSION
October 151h, 2014
CUPERTINO
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m.
ROLL CALL:

Others Present: Bob Cascone,Jim Wiant, Sharon Niedermaier, Frank Geefay
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
Sharon Niedermaier inquired about bicycle parking requirements at retail locations.
Bob Cascone informed the Commission that the Public Safety Commission has put
forward a proposal to change the age restriction for bicycling on sidewalks to allow
middle school students to ride to and from school on sidewalks. The Public Safety
Commission is also interested in exploring possible bus routes to help improve school
commute safety.
Frank Geefay expressed his concern regarding traffic congestion in the Kennedy Middle
School area and its effect on the safety of cyclists in the area.

1) Staff Report (Stillman)
Mr. Stillman had nothing to report.
2) Receive VTA BPAC Report (Wiant)
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
3) The Commission approved the September 171h, 2014 minutes unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS
4) Bike Rodeo Debrief
Commissioner Heller reported there were more than 125 children in attendance.
Most of them were at the rodeo during the first two hours. In the future, the
rodeo should be shortened and the Commission should look into more activities.
Mr. Stillman stated that Safe Moves has more equipment they can provide to
expand the event.
5) Bicycle Transportation Plan Update
Mr. Stillman gave the Commission a summary of the updates discussed during
the prior two meetings. The Commission discussed new additions to the Plan
such as new bikeways and new pavement treatments. Mr. Stillman will get cost
estimates to help the Commission prioritize items at the next meeting.
