MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
BICYCLE PEDESTRIAN COMMISSION
June 18"', 2014
CUPERTINO
The meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m.

ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
Commissioner Lyn introduced himself to the Commission. He was recently appointed to fill the
vacancy on the Commission.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS
ORDERS OF THE DAY
1) Staff Report (Stillman)
Mr. Stillman mentioned the Commission should begin work to update the Bicycle
Transportation Plan in the near future. Items to address include community feedback and
updated standard practices.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
2) The Commission approved the May 21st, -'2014 minutes as written 3-0 with Commissioner
Lyn abstaining.
NEW BUSINESS
3) VTA BPAC Representative Appointment
Mr. Stillman informed the Commission that Jim Wiant's current term as Cupertino's
representative to the VTA BPAC is expiring at the end of June. Commissioner Chan
made a motion to recommend the Cite Council appoint Jim Wiant as Cupertino's
representative to the VTA BPAC. Conunissioner Heller seconded the motion. The
motion passed 4-0.
4) County Expressway Plan 2040 Presentation
Dawn Cameron and John Ciccarelli gave a presentation outlining the County Expressway
Plan 2040 with attention given to bicycle and pedestrian issues and locations near
Cupertino.

5) Torre Avenue Bike Lanes
Mr. Stillman informed the Commission that Torre Ave. has an overlay project scheduled
soon. The intersection with Stevens Creek Blvd. will get bike improvements. He
proposes re-striping Torre Ave. between Stevens Creek Blvd. and Rodrigues Ave. to add
bike lanes in both directions. It involves removing one motor vehicle lane at each
intersection approach which is acceptable for the traffic conditions. Commissioner Chan
made a motion to recommend City Council approve the installation of bike lanes on
Torre Ave. between Stevens Creek Blvd. and Rodrigues Ave. Commissioner Heller
seconded the motion. The motion passed,4-0.
6) Mayor's Monthly Meeting Attendance
Commissioner Chan asked for volunteer, to attend the Mayor's Monthly Meeting with
the Commissioners, which is held every second Wednesday of the month at 4:30 p.m.
Commissioner Chan is no longer able to attend due to a recurring work conflict.
Commissioner Lyn volunteered to attend in July. Commissioner Heller volunteered to
attend in September. Commissioner Mitsc;h volunteered to attend in November.
7) School Commute Survey
No commissioners were able to analyze the survey data in time for this meeting. Each
commissioner will make an effort to look: at the data in time for the July meeting since
the results may be relevant to the upcoming Bicycle Transportation Plan update.
8) Bike Rodeo
Commissioner Heller was in contact with De Anza College and was unable to secure the
use of their property for a reasonable cost:. The new plan is to use the City Hall parking
lot. Mr. Stillman will choose a weekend in September that does not conflict with other
events and will reserve the parking lot for the rodeo. Commissioner Heller has contacted
Safe Moves, the organization that will be. operating the rodeo, and will follow up with
them regarding advertising materials, age ranges, hours, and capacity. For publicity, the
Commission needs to make arrangements to appear in school newsletters, the Courier, the
Scene, and the city website.
OLD BUSINESS
9) Hotlist
Mr. Stillman stated that nothing from the:H[otlist has been fixed since the last update. No
new items were added.
