Teen 04-09-14 CUPERTINO Cupertino Teen Commission Special Meeting Wednesday, April 9, 2014, 6:15 pm Cupertino Teen Center 21111 Stevens Creek Blvd., Cupertino, CA 95014 Approved Minutes CALL TO ORDER— 6:16pm ROLL CALL Commissioners Present: Buvanesh, Doyle, Mol, Prasad, Smithline, Swamy, Trivedi, Yun Commissioners Absent: Sriraman Staff Present: Ganeles MINUTES FROM PREVIOUS MEETING A) March 26, 2014 Commissioner Yun motions to approve minutes. Commissioner Smithline seconds. Motion passes unanimously. COMMUNICATIONS a) Oral b) Written NEW BUSINESS a) City Council Work Plan Presentation Debrief - Good presentation, well done Chair and Vice-Chair o Answered questions from Council very well, even when thrown off by questions which were asked - Commission agrees that in future should take part in Walk One Week b) VALLCO Discussion - Work to get feedback from Cupertino Teens, create a survey - Created sub committees to work on survey o Outreach — Meyhaa, Ajay, Celine o Creation of Survey —Tyler, Chris, Justin • Discussion of information in survey: stores appealing to teens, restaurants, what stores to see in VALLCO, how often teens visit, where teens visit instead of VALLCO, generate a QR Code to get teens to take survey, ascetics of VALLCO (update interior, colors, outdated furniture), what new things would they like to see OLD BUSINESS a) Big Bunny 5K Run Sub Committee Update - Giving out letter to PE departments at schools - Place in announcements, encourage participation - Post on Teen Center page b) Teen Commission Recruitment - Commissioners believe the commission is a good size now, no need for immediate change in the size - More commissioners would be cumbersome at events c) Toppings and Topics – City Social Event - Mayor Gilbert Wong, concerned with violating Brown Act - Make sure Commissions only send 1 or 2 commissioners to the event Re-email out to Staff Liaison's to reply which commissioners are attending - Spread word about event, send out viii email, announcements, flyers, and Facebook d) Roots of Life – Art Event - Decided which wall to create tree on at the Teen Center - Can bring to Library for loth Anniversan/ in October if lots of leaves are on the tree MISCELLANEOUS—NO ACTION REQUIRED ADJOURNMENT The Teen Commission adjourned at 8:10pm to REGULAR MEETING on Wednesday May 14th, 2014 at 6:15pm at Quinlan Community Center, Conference Room, 10185 North Stelling Road, Cupertino 95014.
