MEETING MINUTES
1. CALL TO ORDER
At 7:02 pm Commissioner G ymes called the. meeting to order at Cupertino City Hall,
10300 Torre Avenue, in Conference Room C, Cupertino.
2. ROLL CALL
Commissioners: Annie Ho, Rose Grymes, Adrian Kolb, Ann Stevenson,
City /County LibrarVStaff: Gayathri Kanth, Derek Wolfgram
Absent: Jerry Liu, Nidhi Mathur
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The approval of November minutes was deferred to the January meeting.
4. PRESENTATION
Librarian Wong presentation was deferred to the January meeting.
5. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS
A. Cupertino Community Librarian Report
Cupertino Librarian Gayathri Kanth, reported library circulation has gone down since last
year possibly due to a -books and opening of Calabazas Library. 3940 people attended
library programs and Cupertino Library had 73 programs in October. Few highlights are
the Family Game Day and the Monta Vista TE�ch Symposium which was attended by
about 250 teens. In the future Gayathri plans to continue sending the monthly report and
to highlight orally the top 5 things about the library.
B. County Librarian Report
Deputy County Librarian Derek Wolfgram reported the Services & Support Center
(formerly referred to as Administration) has opened at 1370 Dell Avenue in Campbell.
There will be an open house on Friday, December 6t ", from 3 -5 pm. The land for this
building was purchased by the JPA in 2011 and will pay for itself in next 20 years.
Silicon Valley Reads Kick -off Event is scheduled on January 22nd at the Heritage Theatre
and there are other events scheduled in Cupertino where the authors will make an
appearance.
Derek Wolfgram reported on 2 -year statistics regarding district libraries and the website
survey results. Response rate was 3518 responses in 2012 & 2354 responses in 2013
and the result are based on one week of pop. -up window on website.
Cupertino is on trend with rest of the city in the district. 68.3% of Cupertino residents have
library cards. The survey indicates there is 4.65% increase in gate count and 3.3%
decrease in the library circulation from last year. There is 5.3% increase in programming
with 19.5% increase in program attendance.
He also shared the Santa Clara County Library District Customer Satisfaction Survey
results for 2012 - 2013. Leisure and education are the two top primary reasons for using
the library services. Cupertino has 9.3 rating in importance of borrowing items and 8.5 in
satisfaction of borrowing items. Wireless use has increased throughout to district with
most of users giving a high level of satisfaction rating with the wireless internet access at
the library. The overall satisfaction rating for Cupertino is 8.5 which is slightly lower than
the other cities within the district. Derek distributed the hard copies of the report and will
make digital copies of the report available to the commission. The link to take the survey

7. REPORTS
A. Cupertino Poet Laureate.
Commissioner Kolb reported on Poet Laureate. Jennifer Brown coronation and
Dave Denny's farewell was a successful event. Cupertinopoetlaurearte.org
website is Jennifer's website and she has taken the ownership of Poet Laureate
Facebook page. For inclusion in the database for Poet Laureate's events, contact
Adrian Kolb.
B. Commission Report
1. 2013 Work Plan Elements
Commissioner Kolb & Librarian Kanth discussed outreach to elementary schools.
Commissioner Ho & Stevenson mentioned ways to meet community leaders
through Rotary and the Cupertino Chamber of Commerce.
Commissioner Ho discussed ideas for the Sustainability Speakers Series.
Librarian Kanth will be the contact for Commissioner Ho.
2. Mayors Meeting
Commissioner Kolb to attend January Mayor's meeting
3. City Council
Commissioner Ho reported on introducing Librarian Gayathri Kanth to the
Cupertino City Council.
