BPC 08-21-2013 MINUTES MINUTES OF THE; REGULAR MEETING OF THE BICYCLE PEDESTRIAN COMMISSION August 21", 2013 CUPERTINO The meeting was called to order at 7:07 p.m. ROLL CALL Presents Commissioners Vidula Aiyer, William Chan,Pete Heller; Ashish Kolli, Jill Mitsch- Staf£ David Stillman Others Present: Joseph Rajakaruna, Jim Wiant (VTA liaison) ORAL COMMUNICATIONS • Mr. Rajakaruna introduced himself as a bike designer and enthusiast and expressed interest in being more involved in bike related commission activities. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS • Mayor Orrin Mahoney contacted Commissioner Kolli regarding Mr. Rajakaruna's interest and suggested he attend the commission meeting. • Mr. Stillman circulated a memo from Carol Atwood outlining constraints of why there cannot be a bike event at the Big Bunny Fun Run. This analysis appeared to be done without any consultation from the Bicycle Pedestrian Commission members. In the future, it was agreed to have closer collaboration. OR_ DERS OF THE DAY 1) Received VTA BPAC Report(Wiant) a) Two Cupertino projects were approved and funded — sidewalk on McClellan and overlay at Stevens Creek Blvd. b) VTA accepted the transport monitoring, program proposal to include roadway conditions, litter, and bike mobility, in addition to usual speed and volumersur-veys. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 2) The Commission approved the May 1'5`x', 2013 minutes as corrected. All in favor. NEW BUSINESS 3) Bike Rodeo Discussion a) No support/funding was forthcoming from the school districts' contacts. b) The Optimist Club in Cup_ ertino has planned a similar 'event in Cupertino on September 21, 2013. c) For the FY 14-15 budget; request $3K to support this event. d) Contact Matt Wilson of the Cupertino Courier to add news item regarding the;bike event. OLD BUSINESS 4) Hotlist FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS o Review options to 'enhance .pedestrian and children safety on Merritt and Blaney crossings during school hours in the morning and afternoon.
