BPC 05-15-2013 MINUTES MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BICYCLE PEDESTRIAN COMMISSION May 15th, 2013 CUPERTINO The meeting was called to order at 7:04 p.m. ROLL CALL Present: Commissioners Vidula Aiyer, William Chan, Ashish Kolli, Pete Heller Absent: Jill Mitsch Staff. David Stillman Others Present: Rob McCoy, Public Safety ORAL COMMUNICATIONS Commissioner Kolli: Updated the commission on the General Plan Amendment process started by the City through planning consultants. Commissioner Heller: Contacted Parks & Recreation about the bike rodeo event. Mr. McCoy: The Teen Commission was contacted by the `Walk Friendly' organization. Need input from them regarding Pedestrian Safety. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS None ORDERS OF THE DAY 1) None APPROVAL OF MINUTES 2) The Commission approved the February 20, 2013 minutes. 4 in favor. 1 absent. NEW BUSINESS 3) Bike to Work Day De-brief(Commissioner Chan) • 90 cyclists came. 122 rode by without stopping. • Statistics similar to last year. • Commissioner Chan action items: Will communicate with Cupertino Courier on the statistics. 4) Mayor's Meeting Update (Commissioner Kolli) • New Environmental Study center being; added to Blackberry Farm geared towards elementary schools. • Steven's Creek Trail extension proposal is back to the drawing board. Heavy opposition from owners of property adjacent to the creek. Water district has jurisdiction on the creek. • Special housing coming up at Valero station. Staff is reviewing pedestrian issues. • Update from TICC Commission: • Fiber to home. Considering various options. • Pulsepoint CPR application request. Need Santa Clara County to support. 5) McClellan Road Pedestrian Study Update • Mr. Stillman shared the recommendation from the consulting firm with the commission. • Commissioner Kolli Action Items: Send e-mail to Mr. Stillman to confirm the implementation status of proposals #5, #7. #9 &#13. 6) Bike Rodeo Planning Discussion (Commissioner Heller) Motion to request$3,000 for 2014-2015 City Budget to run a Bike Rodeo City Wide. Seconded by Commissioner Aiyer. Motion Passed by votes for 4 in favor, 0 against. • Commissioner Heller gave an update on the SafeMoves event in Los Altos. • Location Choices: DeAnza College, Blackberry Farm • Funding sources: Public Safety Commission, School PTAs • Action Items: Mr. McCoy to connect Commissioner Heller with the School Resource Officer. OLD BUSINESS 7) Hotlist: • Commissioner William to update new requests for corrective action on City Streets. • Commissioner Kolli reported Pedestrian Crossing safety issues at Stelling and Jollyman Park. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS • Commissioner Aiyer wanted to review safety issues surrounding school time crossing on Merritt & Blaney.
