MEETING MINUTES
1. CALL TO ORDER
At 7:01 p.m. Commissioner Kolb called the meeting to order at Cupertino City Hall,
10300 Torre Avenue, in Conference loom B. Cupertino.

3, APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Commissioner Kolb moved to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of April 3,
2013. Commissioner Liu seconded and the motion passed unanimously.

5, WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS
A. Cupertino Community Librarian Report th
Cupertino Library staff hosted a booth at the April 6 Earth Day where
Library staff and PlaneTree Health Information Center volunteers spore and
distributed materials to more than 1,000 participants. Silicon valley Stories
Video History project worked with De Anza College California History Center,
Library Foundation Cupertino Historical Society and CreaT ' and filmed 17
interviews about family /professional history. A copy of the interview will be
catalogued and stored at the Cupertino Library, as part of its California, western,
Americana (CWA) collection. CreaTV will run a video on their network. Author,
Ruoxi Chen spore at Quinlan to over 400 people this event was also promoted by
the University Alumni Network in Taiwan. April 51h was the reception to launch
the Green@Home Do-R- ourself Dr Tooll it. March statistics 2013 show
75,000 people visited the library, checking out approximately 230,000 items.
Over 3,000 people attended programs in March. Library is to sponsor an
energizer station for Bile to work Day on May 9h.
B. County Librarian Report
The Santa Clara County Library J1 A met on April 25th and unanimously passed
Resolution of Intention to establish a Community Facilities District to authorize
the levy of special taxes. May 28, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. JPA. will hold a public
hearing. An informational FAQ related to library funding was distributed and is
attached to the report.
C. Friends of the Library Report
Friends of the Library will be hosting their book sale May 4th & 5t". 'New
officers are in place for the 2013/2014 fiscal year which began April I ".
10,000 was budgeted for the Book Mobile which reaches out to some who
for health reasons or geographic proximity are unable to get to our library
buildings.

7. OLD BUSINESS
A. 2013 Work Plan (see attachment 1
Adrian Kolb suggested removing the word "Community"' from the Cupertino
Library in Section 1. Commissioners reviewed and discussed all components
of the 2013 Work Plana. Jerry Liu discussed how bloging could be
incorporated into the digital interfacing component of the Work Plan.. hark
Fink discussed how he could aide in the outreach to the PTA's as referred to
in Section 1•-. Adrian Kolb will work towards outreach of elementary schools.
Annie Ho and Mark Fink will reach out to Laura. Lee for outreach to the Block
Leaders. Annie Ho and Jerry Liu are interested in working on the digital
services project provided by the SCOLD. Jerry Liu is to become involved with
the Tech Toolbar. Adrian Kolb and Ann Steverson to continue working on the
Poet Laureate project culminating in September with a recommendation to the
City Council for the new Poet Laureate. Annie Ho is interested in becoming
involved with the City of Cupertino Sustainability Manager and the Cupertino
Community Librarian, initiation of a Sustainability Speakers Series.
B. Environment Speakers Series
Annie Ho would like to work the events relating to the Environmental Speaker
Series.
C. Possible Commission Half-Day `Retreat'
This has been tabled until the June 2013 meeting.
