BPC 02-20-2013 / MINUTES MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE �� BICYCLE PEDESTRIAN COMMISSION J / February 20, 2013 �yS �9ss CUPERTINO The meeting was called to order at 7:04 pm ROLL CALL: Present: Commissioners Vidula Aiyer, William Chan, Pete Heller, Ashish Kolli, Jill Mitsch Absent: None Staff: David Stillman VISITORS: Rob McCoy, Public Safety Commissioner Jim Wiant,VTA BPAC ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS None ORDERS OF THE DAY 1) Receive VTA BPAC Report (Wiant) Mr. Wiant presented information from VTA BPAC meetings from September 2012 through February 2013. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 2) The Commission approved the January 16. 2013 minutes as corrected unanimously. NEW BUSINESS 3) Election of Vice-Chair: Former Commissioner Takahashi's departure requires a new Vice-Chair be selected. Chair Kolli nominated Commissioner Chan for Vice-Chair. Commissioner Heller seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. 4) Stevens Creek Trail Community Outreach Meeting: Mr. Stillman informed the Commission that there is a public meeting on Monday, February 25, 7:00pm, at the Cupertino Senior Center. The meeting is hosted by The Stevens Creek Trail Joint Cities Feasibility Study where they will discuss ideas for the Stevens Creek Trail between Homestead Road and Stevens Creek Boulevard bounded by Mary Avenue and Foothill Boulevard. 5) McClellan Road Pedestrian Study Update: Mr. Stillman reported on the pedestrian study for McClellan Road. Part of the study focuses on the segment between Byrne Avenue and Foothill Boulevard for sidewalk installation. A preliminary report was made 1.5 weeks ago. Mr. Stillman will update the Commission at future meetings when there are results to share. 6) Bicycle Event/Opinion Survey Organization: Commissioner Heller brought up the idea of organizing a kids-oriented bicycle event. In the past, the Commission discussed adding a bicycle component to the Big Bunny Fun Run or utilizing the De Anza College campus for an event. Further exploration of these events will take place when the new Parks and Recreation Director is chosen. Commissioner Heller also brought up the idea of surveying kids and parents about biking to find out what the issues are and what can be done to encourage biking. Mr. Stillman will provide Commissioner Heller with a CUSD staff contact to help with the survey. OLD BUSINESS 7) Bike to Work Day: Commissioner Chan reported Thursday, May 9, is Bike to Work Day for 2013. The Commission will be sure to acquire food in addition to coffee this year. The hours for the energizer station at Quinlan Community Center will be 6:30-9:30am. Public Safety Commissioner McCoy will look into providing canopies for the station. All other requests for supplies will be forwarded to Mr. Stillman in April. Commissioners and friends of the Commission will provide their volunteer availability next month. 8) Hotlist: Commissioner Chan will take ownership of the Hotlist since former Commissioner Takahashi has joined the Planning Commission. The Hotlist was reviewed and updated. Item 36 will become multiple items since some locations will take longer than others. For Item 60, the sidewalk should be open soon. For Item 61, staff still needs to review. A new item was added regarding the large expansion cracks on De Anza Blvd. over 280.
