Commissioner Takahashi presented updates on ii e racks.

Mr. Stillman reported the official renaming of the Mary Avenue Bridge to Don Brett Bicycle-
Pedestrian Bridge. The ceremony is to be held on 10/08/11 at 1o:o arn.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS
Commissioner Chan reported on the Hya nisport bile incident, information event at Lincoln
Elementary to coincide with their book fair on 10/20 and communication from Sheriff s office on
their school visit dates.
Anne Ng provided copies of Trailblazer magazine.

The Commission approved the minutes -o.

Dotes: minor correction on the dedication details for the bridge.
NEW BUSINESS
3) Apple Campus and vicinity i1 e l ed Friendliness
Commissioner Chan reviewed the campus plan. Given that we lose Pruneridge Ave, there was a
question on what route existing bicyclists will have once the new campus is built.
Mr. Stillman commented that the main campus will sit right on top of Pruneridge. EIR will
evaluate this for traffic impacts. Both VTA & the City are concerned about the loss of pedestrian
and bicycle access on Fruneridge. Mr. Stillman will beep the commission apprised.
Commissioner Chan raised a concern about the total number of access roads into campus.
Presently, this is limited to two roads. Employees may have a tendency to park- in adjoining
neighborhoods and walk to campus.
Mr. Stillman will figure out the protocol for raising these issues and report back to the
commission at the next meeting.

4 Bicycle Education Program
Co=issloner Chan reported the status of various events in Cupertino schools:
• Sedgwick & Raton: already done
• Garden Gate: Nov 9th
• Lincoln: Jan 4th
Commissioner Takahashi suggested a Nile PC unit.
Commissioner Chan spore with the ` oltage' person in Kennedy to have incentives started (this
is funded by the safety commission).
There was discussion on the rules for when sidewalk can be used for bicycles (children have to
be under the age of 1.
Commissioner Takahashi asked if we are getting regular data dumps from the Sheriffs office.
He was concerned about accidents that may point to Pedestrian issues that may not yet have been
braised to the Commission.
Commissioner Chan will follow -up with the SRO to get more data in this area.

5) Bicycle Event Discussion
Commissioner Takahashi is coordinating with I eAn a for perimeter road access for a 6-mile
event aligned with the Fun .dun. Planning on making the Fun Run and the Bike event go in
opposite directions. One issue: hove do we turn people around after the bridge on the Sunnyvale
side?
Mr. Wiant asked if Parks & Recreation was open to getting Wipes to start ahead of the
valiers /runners,
No notion on any item was put forth.
6) Bike Routes to lac berry Farm/Scenic Circle
Conamissioner Chan indicated the new route cannot be published in Safe Routes to school
because the new bridge is not accessible by an existing bike route.
Mir. Stillman indicated that this needs to be brought in front of the council for vote.
Commissioner Chan suggested the following options;
9 Foothill side: use Palm or Mira Vista
School side: use San Fernando feeding to Byrne or orange
Commissioner Kolli indicated preference on orange on the school side as the Byrne and
McClellan intersection are not very safe,
Mr. Stillman suggested that the commission make a notion to approve and take this item to City
Council.
The Commission made a notion for Staff to consider Palm Ave, Scenic Circle & San Fernando
in the proposed Bike Routes list.

7) H annisport Bike Improvements
Corn nissioner Chan reported an incident on Hyannisport where a car, while turning into
Kennedy middle school, side - swiped a child on a bicycle. Commission reviewed maps of the
area to see if we can recommend an alternate location in Kennedy to divert bicycle traffic away
from the main entry /exit points for cars.
Commissioner Takahashi suggested a bike rack in the school grounds.
Commissioner Chan requested Mr. Stillman to see if we can put a no parking sign during drop -
off /pick -up hours.
Mr. Stillman will review and report back to the commission on what can be dome.

OLD BUSINESS
8) Pedestrian Transportation Guidelines
Mr. Wiant indicated that VTA requires a Ped Plan to be a separate plan.
Commissioner Takahashi indicated that there is a lot of information in the present draft plan that
needs an updated including; school courts, map data and new developments.
Commissioners Mitsch & Kolli will review the plan and take ownership of some sections to
update.
Commissioner Takahashi indicated it would be worth mentioning about vallco & Main Street
proj ects.
9 Hotlist Review

Commissioner Takahashi discussed hotlist sterns:
o #18: done.
o 436: targeting summer of next year. Will be doing dig -outs on Stevens Creek.
o #38: target summer of 2012.
o #39: Mr. Stillman looking into it.
o #5: the new loops should be marked.
o #11: we should have a sign (bike friendly community) at the bridge.
o 444 & #45: awaiting feedback on flashing beacons on Tantau & Barnhardt.
o #46: Mr. Stillman will review the safety of the cross walk.
Mr. 'giant reported poor pavement issues on Bollinger before the turn into Kim (Potholes
Cracks.
• Commissioner Chian reported issues with the Signal light at Results Way & Bubb.
Wanted improvements done before construction begins.
