CUPER'TINO Teen Commission Regular Meeting Wednesday, February 13, 2013 6:15 pm Quinlan Community Center, Conference Room 10185 North Stelling Road, Cupertino CA 95014 APPROVED MINUTES CALL TO ORDER at 6:15 pm PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE ROLL CALL Commissioners present: Ding, Chan, Doyle, Lujack, Mol, Yip, Buvanesh, Pommier, Puranik Staff present: Linder MINUTES FROM PREVIOUS MEETING a) Regular meeting, January 23, 2013 COMMUNICATIONS a) Oral b) Written NEW BUSINESS a) Director's Message- Environmental Education Center a. Distributed the conceptual plans for the new Environmental Education Center to be located at McClellan Ranch Preserve. Commission members liked the plans. b. Teen Center will be open 12—6 during next week's winter break and free cocoa will be served. c. Director Linder is leaving to become City Manager of Campbell. This will be his last meeting and he thanked the Commission for their good work in service to the Cupertino community. b) Teen &Senior Afternoon Tea Event c) Date is March 18, 2013 and time is 4 PM—5:30 PM a. Commissioners decided to have a fancy hat contest. The hats will be made at the Tea with Commissioners helping the seniors to make the hats. Commissioners will also bring the supplies for making the hats. b. Prizes will be ribbons and certificates. Ribbons are for first and second place in each category and certificates for all participants. d) Teen Newspaper/ Website Column Brainstorm a. Commission discussed how this could include stories on upcoming events, videos, reminders of meetings, announce events like the Big Bunny Run, and maybe announce high school events. b. If others ask to contribute content, it would be ok provided the Commission approved. OLD BUSINESS a) Big Bunny 5K Promotion Plan check-in a. Greg will contact Lawson, Chris will contact Kennedy, Ashley will contact Hyde b. Commission agreed to email elementary school principals of the school they attended c. High school contacts will be friends and the Physical Education Department teachers b) CPRS Teen Academy Presentation check-in a. Madeline, Sanika, and Carissa are doing the opening section b. Celine, Dana, Chris have the middle section c. Ashley, Greg, and Meyhaa doing the closing. d. Each group shared where they were in their segments. Commission agreed to a rehearsal at the next Commission meeting. c) WOW Event review/ discussion check-in a. Businesses–Carissa and Celine have a list of businesses to go to,but have not contacted them yet. Businesses include food, theaters, coffee. b. March 1 at the Chamber of Commerce Legislative Action Committee is a go. Meeting at Noon in the Chamber offices. c. Madeline updated that status on printing. Sanika will contact the Patch, possible add information to school websites d. Ashley to add new testimonials to the kit. e. Outreach–Greg, Ashley, Chris will contact schools once they get the kit. d) Teen Center promotion a. Video submitted to city staff for uploading to YouTube MISCELLANEOUS—NO ACTION REQUIRED a) High school photography club interest in summertime assignments ADJOURNMENT At 7:20 pm the Teen Commission adjourned to a REGULAR MEETING on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 6:15 pm at Quinlan Community Center, Conference Room, 10185 North Stelling Road, Cupertino.
