Teen 11-28-2012 )...01/t/ 4,41 19,, CUPERTINO Teen Commission Regular Meeting Wednesday, November 28, 2012 6:15 pm Quinlan Community Center, Cupertino Room 10185 North Stelling Road, Cupertino CA 95014 APPROVED MINUTES CALL TO ORDER PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE ROLL CALL Commissioners present: Ding, Chan, Mol, Doyle, Lujack, Pommier, Yip, Buvanesh, Puranik Staff present: Linder, Neff MINUTES FROM PREVIOUS MEETING a) Regular meeting, November 14, 2012 Commissioner Lujack motions to approve minutes. Commissioner Puranik seconds. Motion passes unanimously. COMMUNICATIONS a) Oral b) Written NEW BUSINESS a) Director's Message- open invitation to attend 12/4 Council meeting where Mr. Orrin Mahoney will be sworn in as mayor. Reminder of 11/30 Tree Lighting event at Quinlan Community Center. Leadership 95014 will visit MVHS on 11/28. Science staff focus group for EEC met, reviewed survey, meeting with architect scheduled for 11/28, consider joint meeting in February with P&R Commission for final discussion on EEC plans. b) "Be the Street Regional Campaign"— Cheri Donnelly- Environmental Program Manager shared anti-litter campaign with commissioners with the hope of collecting ideas to share the"Be the Street" message with teens in the Cupertino community. Commissioners encouraged to continue to think of ideas and or chose to be more involved in developing the effort in Cupertino. c) Environmental Education Center survey review- 30 students from MVHS Environmental Education class participated in a survey to measure what is desirable at the future EEC. OLD BUSINESS a) Work plan updates a. Event with Senior Center participants- commissioners considering hosting a "prom" style event with Senior Center participants. Possible date in May, 2013. To include dinner, dancing, live music. Another consideration is a "tea-party"style event. Activities might include hat contests, crochet, and small bite appetizers. b. Tutoring program- Proposal to Lincoln Elementary for consideration of such program. Commissioners agreed starting with a small pilot program is best to test the concept. b) Giving Tree event updates- donation boxes have been delivered, commissioners are responsible for monitoring and supporting giving- campaign between now and 12/12. c) Teen Center promotion- commissioners brainstormed activities for special events at the teen center during the school break in December/January. Teen staff will take their ideas, program activities, prepare and implement. MISCELLANEOUS—NO ACTION REQUIRED ADJOURNMENT At 7:55 pm the Teen Commission adjourned to a REGULAR MEETING on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at 6:15 pm at Quinlan Community Center, Social Room, 10185 North Stelling Road, Cupertino.
