I. FALL To ORDER
At :01 p.m. Chair Kolb called the meeting to order at Cupertino City Hall, 10300
Torre Avenue, in EOC, Cupertino.
2, ROLL FALL
Commissioners: Adrian Kolb, Janet Riddell, Ann Stevenson
City/County Library Staff: Marie Fink, Nancy Howe, Carol Atwood

3, APPROVAL of MINUTES
Commissioner Stevenson moved to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of
November 7, 2012 with noted corrections. Commissioner Riddell seconded and the
motion passed unanimously.
4, ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
David Sandler, new Cupertino resident, was in attendance to learn about the
Commission.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS
None
6. OLD BUSINESS
A. Library Report on e -content: The e -resource of the month is "America the
Beautiful." The Teen advisory board is patting together a presentation to the
} Teen Commission in January and to the Library Commission in February to
present the e- resources for the teens.
B. Commission Report to City Council: Anticipated in January with Dave
Denny's presentation.
C. Schedulin Library Programs in Community Hall; A meeting has been
scheduled with City Manager, David Brandt. The library programs have
increased substantially which conflicts with other programs at Community
Hall.
7, REPORTS
A. Cupertino Community Librarian Report
Mark Fink reported that there were 64 programs with 3 100 participants
attending plus a lot of school even. (500 additional participants), library card
drives and PTA teacher presentations. Third library card drive is set up for
this Friday. Foundation has agreed to pay for 1/2 the library cards and the
PTA for 1/2 for teachers living outside the district. Gift cards are also
available. The boob mobile has been successful and ESL club is very
popular.
Mark Fink reported the Teen Advisory Board's proposal to upgrade the
Library courtyard. Proposals included a Japanese rock garden or community
vegetable garden in collaboration with the Santa Clara County Master
Gardeners. Commission discussed how they will support.
B. County Librarian. Report
Nancy Howe submitted attached report.
C. Cupertino Poet Laureate
Commission received over 100 entries for the poetry contest. Winners will be
announced on January 20. The Commission will be selecting the next poet
laureate this next year. Carol Atwood will request the original staff report and
proclamation from City Clerk and Chair Kolb will discuss with Lave Lenny
his interest in re- applying.
L. Commissioner Reports
Chair Kolb asked if City staff could fill in puddle in front of the library statue.
Chair Kolb will submit the 2013 work plan to the Commission and a 2012
summary document. Chair Kolb inquired about the parking subcommittee.
Carol Atwood reported that there will be a study session on the Civic Center
master plan held on December 18"' at Community Hall which should address
parking issue. It was recommended that the Commission representative
address this issue with Mayor Mahoney, who was on the subcommittee, at
the Mayor monthly meetings.
Commission decided to cancel the regular scheduled meeting of January 2'd
2013 and scheduled special m.eetin. g to be held January 9th, 2013.
E. Staff Reports
Carol Atwood reported about new development projects.
F. Friends of the Library
Mark Fin. k reported that they are currently working to support the Silicon
Valley read project.
