The regular Planning Commission meeting of February 12, 2013 was called to order at 6:45 p.m. in the
Cupertino Community Hall, 10350 Torre Avenue, Cupertino, CA. by Com. Don Sun.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
1. Minutes of the January 8, 2013, Planning Commission meeting:
MOTION: Motion by Com. Brophy, second by Commissioner Lee, and carried 3-0-2,
Coms. Gong and Takahashi abstained; to approve the January 8, 2013 Planning
Commission minutes as presented.

2. Elect a Chair and Vice Chair, and assign Committee appointments for 2013.

Select representatives to the Design Review Committee,, Housing Commission, Economic
Development Committee; Select representative to the Environmental Review Committee (ERC)
meeting to be appointed by the City Council. Select attendance schedule for the Mayor’s Monthly
Meeting; Discuss Planning Commission meeting schedule for 2013.
Com. Brophy nominated, seconded by Com. Takaashi the nomination of Com. Don Sun as Chairperson
for 2013; unanimously carried 5-0-0
Com. Lee nominated, seconded by Com. Gong, the nomination of Com. Paul Brophy as Vice Chairperson
for 2013; unanimously carried 5-0-0.
The following committee appointments were made:
Design Review Committee: 1st and 3rd Thursdays, 5:00 p.m.
The Vice Chair of the Commission serves as Chair of the Design Review Committee (DRC); Vice Chair
Paul Brophy will serve as Chair of the DRC for 2013
Com. Margaret Gong will serve on the DRC
Housing Commission: 2nd Thursday, 9:00 a.m.
Com. Alan Takahashi will serve as representative on Housing Commission.
Economic Development Committee: Meeting Dates to be determined
Com. Lee volunteered to serve on the Economic Development Committee.
Environmental Review Committee: 1st and 3rd Thursdays, 9:30 a.m.
Chair Don Sun will be the representative on the ERC; alternate rep to be determined; (City Council
representative Barry Chang, Rod Sinks (alternate)
Mayor’s Monthly Meeting: 1st Tuesday, 8:00 a.m. Conference Room A

REPORT OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION
REPORT OF THE DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT:
Aarti Shrivastava, Director of Community Development reported:
• That the City Council made a decision to move ahead with the General Plan Amendment and
rezoning, and to budget money toward the dog park and Mary Avenue.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW COMMITTEE: No meeting
HOUSING COMMISSION: No January meeting held; next meeting scheduled for February 14, 2013,
meeting at Cleo Avenue, Habitat for Humanity project.
MAYOR’S MONTHLY MEETING FOR FEBRUARY 2013:
Com. Lee reported:
• Fine Arts Commission: Not a lot of building, the Homestead Square development went to
Planning Commission; discussed public art.
• Library Commission: Cupertino Library is the busiest in County, second highest in state, has
over 65 programs; gave update on poet laureate.
• TIC: canvassing city on alert system.
• Parks and Rec: Reviewing McClellan Ranch to update General Plan, reviewed the
environmental education ranch and will break around this fall; received an extension on grant;
Parks and Rec Director leaving to be Campbell City Manager.
• Teen Commission: Giving Tree event, West Valley Presbyterian Church; WOW Project in May;
Bunny Fun Run.
• Housing Commission: Survey people using BMR housing assistance.
• Bicycle Pedestrian Commission: May 9 Bike to Work Day.
• Pubic Safety: Working on Traffic Programs around schools. Cupertino alert System:
has been tested; it works
Economic Development Committee: No meeting
Planning Commission schedule of 2013 meetings:
• Proposed change to cancel second meeting in December; also discuss pre-planned absences from
meetings.
Upcoming Council Agendas:
• Appeal for Saich Way station
• Going to Council for authorization to initiate a General Plan amendment to add office allocation to
the city to look at the Vallco area; and also combine General Plan amendment requests from a
number of developers into the project; 12 to 15 month process

Don Sun welcomed new commissioners Gong and Takahashi to the Planning Commission.
