MINUTES FROM PREVIOUS MEETING
a) Regular meeting, October 10, 2012
Commissioner Chan motions to approve minutes. Commissioner Pommier
seconds. Motion passes unanimously.
COMMUNICATIONS
a) Oral
b) Written — City of Oakland staff advisor sent a letter inviting Cupertino
commissioners to attend a Bay Area Youth Commission Action Summit in
2013. Cupertino commissioners had questions about event details and
logistics. Staff liaison Neff will inquire and return to the commission on 11/28
with follow up information. Also, CPRS conference to be held in March 2013
will host a Teen Leadership Academy for commissioners, a full -day workshop
and networking opportunity. Cupertino's presentation on "Tolerance of
Failure" from the 2012 YAC Attack is being considered as one of the day's
workshops. Cupertino Commissioners have requested more details on
logistics. Staff liaison Neff will inquire and return to the commission on 11/28
with follow up information.
NEW BUSINESS
a) Director's Message- Director introduced city staff, Katie and Carmen who are
working on Environmental Education Center. Announcement was made about
the Leadership 95014 visitations to Ngh school campus' on 11/29. A reminder
about the Tree Lighting event held at. Quinlan Community Center on 11/30 at
6pm, all community members invited. And, acknowledgement of October's
busy month and a job well done.
b) Political Forum, "Pizza & Politics" event debriefing- commissioners were
overall pleased with event. Discussion about a future similar event included
topics such as attendees and logistics.
c) School district meeting /presentation debriefing- both the FUHSD and CUSD
groups felt confident with presentations and response from board members.
d) P &R Dept. 50th Birthday Bash debriefing- Commissioners were happy with the
turn out on a Friday evening.
e) Refine work plan, establish timeline fDr the following items: WOW (4/22-
4/26) , Giving Tree (11/26- 12/14), Event with Senior Center (event ideas and
proposals to be reviewed at 11/28 meeting), and Tutoring program (event
ideas and proposal to be reviewed at 11/28 meeting)
f) Giving Tree event details- Commissioners received an update on event details
in preparation for the giving window, 11/26- 12/12.
g) McClellan Ranch Preserve Environmental Education Center discussion -
Director Linder lead discussion about current program offerings held at
McClellan Ranch Preserve, what future programming looks like, and how teen
commissioners see the new facility being utilized. A survey will be generated
with the intent to distribute to high school environmental science students.
h) YAC Social, November 16 in Burlingame
i) 2013 City Council Political Forum proposal- Commissioners felt good about
hosting a political forum similar to Pizza & Politics during the Cupertino City
Council elections in fall of 2013.
OLD BUSINESS
a) Teen Center promotion- commissionE�rs will meet to create a video to use on
school campus' and via social media to promote the Teen Center.

At 8:26 pm the Teen Commission adjourned to a REGULAR MEETING on
Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at 6:15 pm at Quinlan Community Center, Social
