PRESENTATION –
Library Theft by Kathy Stakey, President, Friends of Cupertino
Library
Kathy Stakey from Friend of Cupertino Library reported on issue of sporadic book theft. The
Friends have reported the situation to Cupertino Librarian, Mark Fink and the Sheriff
department. So far nobody has been accused but there are some suspects. All these books
have price tags which clearly states “Please pay at the circulation desk” hence there is no
confusion about paying for the books. The camera in the lobby is focused on circulation desk
so it is not helpful for tracking the theft. Ms. Stakey stated that a member of the sheriff’s
department came to monitor the situation. Some other things that they have tried are sending
volunteer to watch the area, which was not successful. She said that lower cost camera,
which stores two weeks of footage should be the right fit for this situation. Commissioner
Grymes will ask TICC to help with this issue.
