The meeting was called to order at 7:12 p.m.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The Commission approved the January 16, 2008 minutes as amended to correct the spelling of Wiant.
OLD BUSINESS
1. Bicycle Transportation Plan Update
• Commissioner Walton reported that the Bicycle Promotion and Education Chapters were
complete, and to be sent to David Stillman with updated footnotes.
• Commissioner Koski reported that chapters for which she is responsible have been rewritten in
MS Word, Web-ready, and will be sent to David Stillman.
• Commissioner Paulsen commented that David Stallman was aware to remove from the new plan
the original plan to bicycle-lane stripe Homestead, which was been completed is the past. In
addition, both, Commissioner Paulsen said, will work together to complete the bike route maps.
• Commissioners, understanding the nearest of plan completion, discussed considerations for
public dissemination, after the commission review, such as the following:
• Public notification via a general community mailing of the new bicycle transportation plan
• Availability of copies of the previous and new bicycle transportation plans in the library for
comparison
• Televising public comment of the plan
NEW BUSINESS
1. Cupertino Alternative Transportation Web-Site Proposal
• Commissioner Walton raised the opportunity of having an "alternative transportation" Web
site that would be accessible from the City of Cupertino Web site. He further advised
commissioners to view the Stanford University Web site's alternative transportation structure
(see httpa/transportation.stanford.edu/alt transportation/AlternateTransportation shtn~l) as a
model for our deployment of our Bicycle Transportation Plan, bicycle and pedestrian routes
within the city.
• Commissioner agreed to view the Stanford alternative transportation Web site and develop a
list of requirements we could provide staff for consideration at our March meeting.
2. VTA Bicycle Guidelines Final Draft
• Commissioner Walton reported that the final draft was completed and approved by the VTA;
it has been given to David Stallman.
• Commissioner Paulsen raised a question as to the effect of the guidelines on the Cupertino
Public Works Department; that is, do the guidelines become construction standards for the
department? This question will be forwarded to David Stillman.
3. "Safe Routes to School" Public Works Cards Status (deferred from the January 16 meeting)
4. Bicycle Pedestrian Commission Goals for 2008, a Continuation
• Reduced Tri-School area congestion: A plan, for example, to include a pledge not to drive,
two-tiered drop-off areas (one near by for carpools and one farther for non-carpools).
• Improved general walk-ability throughout the community (via specific suggestions, such as
tree-planting, from Council Members, the Planning and Public Works Departments, and
Block Captains
• Installed low cost traffic circles in lower traffic areas, especially along bike routes.
• Published bi-monthly Cupertino Scene articles regarding campaigns to reduce encroachment
of vegetation onto sidewalks or to provide Web site references to improve greening of the
community.
• Help promote bicycling and walking at the upcoming Apple Campus.
• Prepare for increased bicycle and pedestrian traffic from the new Mary Avenue Footbridge
such as a designated bike route on the West side of the DeAnza College campus.
