I received your recent letter in regard to Building Permit#52725.
The project is ongoing, and I do not want you to close out the record. The project is a lengthy one, in part
due to its scope, in part due to contractor problems, and in no small measure due to the unsatisfactory
performance of the Building Department itself.
The inspectors' habit of looking at isolated parts of the project in a piecemeal fashion, while at the
same time overlooking or failing to comment on problems in other areas added significantly to the
difficulty with this project.
It is also true that once the full extent of the problem areas was determined, Inspector "Chuck" has been
quite helpful in pointing the way to effective solutions. I am at the same time grateful for his
• assistance, and near-furious that it did not come sooner.
You probably weren't looking for this feedback when you sent me the letter, and I won't take any more
of your time. But let me make one final observation: the fact that you wrote the letter means you are not
in very good contact with the inspectors, and not talking with them about the things that are going on.
This is perhaps symptomatic of the way that department is run, i. e., not very well.
