6. NEW BUSINESS
A. Project overview, Stevens Creek Corridor Park
Parks and Recreation Director, Therese Ambrosi Smith, presented
an overview on the history and progress on the Stevens Creek
Corridor Park project.
Issues of importance to Cupertino Historical Society (CHS) were
discussed including:
• What the role of CHS should be in planning for the
Stocklmeir Property
• Proposed trail alignment through the orchard
• The amount of orchard given over to the realignment of
Stevens Creek
It was suggested by Commissioner Chen that two trails be built on
the Stocklmeir property - as is planned for McClellan Ranch -
with a natural, non-compacted footpath through the orchard and a
multipurpose path along the creek, screened from golf balls. CHS
representatives indicated that they would want an orchardist to
evaluate the footpath through the orchard so that trees are not
unduly stressed by the foot traffic. The Commissioners in
attendance felt this was a good idea.
The CHS Board will be meeting to discuss the project and further
define their potential role in project implementation and history
interpretation. They will return to the Commission at a future
meeting with a proposal for participation in the project.
ACTION: Helene Davis, the President of Cupertino Historical
Society, suggested that the Commissioners and Julia or Therese, plan
to attend the next CHS meeting on October 17, 2007 and present the
Stevens Creek Corridor Park Project plan to their members.
