P&R 10-04-07 MINUTES PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION CITY OF CUPERTINO REGULAR MEETING THURSDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2007 1. CALL TO ORDER Chair Bradford called the meeting to order at 7:02 pm at Cupertino City Hall, Room 100, 10300 Torre Avenue, Cupertino, CA. 2. ~ PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE 3. ROLL CALL Commissioners present: Jeanne Bradford, Derek Chen and David Greenstein Commissioners absent: David Lee Staff present: Therese Ambrosi Smith, Donna Henriques Also Present: CHS Board Members, Helene Davis, Donna Austin Jane Alvarado 4. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING , A. Action: Commissioner Greenstein made a motion to accept the minutes of the September 6, 2007 regular meeting. Commissioner Chen seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously. 5. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS - none 6. NEW BUSINESS A. Project overview, Stevens Creek Corridor Park Parks and Recreation Director, Therese Ambrosi Smith, presented an overview on the history and progress on the Stevens Creek Corridor Park project. Issues of importance to Cupertino Historical Society (CHS) were discussed including: • What the role of CHS should be in planning for the Stocklmeir Property • Proposed trail alignment through the orchard • The amount of orchard given over to the realignment of Stevens Creek It was suggested by Commissioner Chen that two trails be built on the Stocklmeir property - as is planned for McClellan Ranch - with a natural, non-compacted footpath through the orchard and a multipurpose path along the creek, screened from golf balls. CHS representatives indicated that they would want an orchardist to evaluate the footpath through the orchard so that trees are not unduly stressed by the foot traffic. The Commissioners in attendance felt this was a good idea. The CHS Board will be meeting to discuss the project and further define their potential role in project implementation and history interpretation. They will return to the Commission at a future meeting with a proposal for participation in the project. ACTION: Helene Davis, the President of Cupertino Historical Society, suggested that the Commissioners and Julia or Therese, plan to attend the next CHS meeting on October 17, 2007 and present the Stevens Creek Corridor Park Project plan to their members. 8. MISCELLANEOUS - NO ACTION REQUIRED A. Therese updated the Commission on the complaint letters from two Cupertino residents regarding the Moon Festival in Memorial Park. 9.
