MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF. THE
BICYCLE PEDESTRIAN COMMISSION
January 17, 2007

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The Commission approved the November 15 Minutes as amended to modify the adjournment time from
8:15 pm to 9:15 pm.
NEW BUSINESS
1. County Presentation on Lawrence Expressway/Mitty Ave Crossing Enhancements
Associate Civil Engineer Khoa V 0 from the Santa Clara County Roads and Airports Department gave a
presentation on the pedestrian crossing enhancements planned for the Lawrence Expressway/Mitty
Avenue intersection. The enhancements include a new crosswalk across the south side of the
intersection, new pedestrian push buttons and signal heads, ramps, and a connection to the San Tomas
Aquino/Saratoga Creek Trail. The project is scheduled to be completed by May 30,2007.
2. Update on Bollinger Road Widening at Calabazas Creek
Senior Civil Engineer David Stillman presented an update on the schedule for the widening of Bollinger
Road at Calabazas Creek. David Stillman reported that the project will be awarded by the Santa Clara
Valley Water District in March of this year, and construction within the creek could begin by April 15
and be completed by October 1.

3. Bicycle Transportation Plan Update
Commissioner Joe Walton presented his recommended reVISIons to the Cupertino Bicycle
Transportation Plan. The Commission discussed the best ways to proceed with the update. Senior Civil
Engineer David Stillman agreed to look into funding options and the possibility of converting the
existing Plan to electronic format. The Commissioners agreed to take on much of the update work
themselves, with items such as potentially farming out graphics to consultants. The possibility of
placing the Plan on the City's website was also discussed. This item will be re-agendized on upcoming
meetings to facilitate the ongoing update of the Plan.
4. Commission Endorsement of Cycle 7 Safe Routes to School Application * Possible Action*
Senior Civil Engineer David Stillman presented the details of the completed Cycle 7 Safe Routes to
School Application, and requested Commission endorsement of the Application and of the letter of
support Chair Koski had already provided for the application package. David Stillman explained the
process by which Commission endorsement of future grant applications should take place.
The Commission adopted a Minute Order. endorsing the Cycle 7 Safe Routes to School Application.
