PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
At 7:05 p.m. Chairman Robert Harrison called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of
Allegiance.
ROLL CALL
Present: Chairman Robert Harrison, and Commissioners Nancy Canter, Michael Harkins, and K.C.
Chandratreya. Absent: Jessi Kaur. Staff present: City Clerk Kimberly Smith.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
1. The minutes of April 24, 2007 were approved.
PRESENTATIONS
2. Proposal from Vardy Stein for a rotating artwork display at Vardy’s Jewelers.
Vardy Stein discussed with the commission his plans for re-landscaping his property and his
desire to include art on a rotating basis. He indicated that he would like someone to
oversee the project on a regular basis. Harkins moved to have Commissioner Canter work
with the sculpture department at DeAnza College to see if they would be interested in
handling the project. Harrison seconded and motion passed unanimously with Kaur absent.
NEW BUSINESS

3Budget Update
City Clerk reported that all Fine Arts funding requests for fiscal year 2007-08 had been
approved by City Council.
4. Review applications and select the Distinguished Artist(s) of the Year for 2007.
The Commission reviewed and discussed the nominations in the visual arts category.
Canter moved to award Charlotte Kruk n’Kempken as Distinguished Artist of the Year.
Harkins seconded and motion passed with Chandratreya opposed and Kaur absent.
The Commission adjourned to City Clerk’s office to hear CDs of the performing artist
nominations, and then re-convened into the conference room. Harrison moved to make no
selection in the performing artist category. Canter seconded and the motion passed with
Chandratreya opposed and Kaur absent.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
5.Discussion of sculpture garden and/or sculpture locations in community.
The item was continued to the August meeting.

6. Status report on the policy for commercial sale of art displayed on city property.
The commission will review at the August meeting. City Clerk to receive a review by Torn
Walters first and then will e-mail Commissioner Harrison.
7. Preparation of a Percent-for-Art ordinance and "developer's guidelines" document.
The commission will review at the August meeting.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS
City Clerk reported that the Shakespeare Festival wanted to know whether the Distinguished Artist
award ceremony would be held during the festival. The Commission concurred to hold the
ceremony at both the Shakespeare Festival and the Fall Festival.
City Clerk also noted that the Silicon Valley Arts Council is holding a conference on September
17 -18. The Commission concurred to send two commissioners.

8. Arts-related news updates from Commissioners
There was no discussion on this item.
9. Report from Mayor's meeting with commissions, and select representative to attend future
meetings (these occur the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 8:00 a.m.).
Harrison distributed and reviewed his report from the Mayor's breakfast. Chandratreya
will attend on July 11 and Canter will attend on August 8.
