4. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING
A. The minutes of the May 3, 2007 were unanimously approved.
5. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS - Resident Pat Bustamante displayed archived
maps of the Tantau Ranch and surrounding areas.
6. OLD BUSINESS
A. Rancho Rinconada Park discussion Option 4.
1. Landscape architect Bruce Hill presented a conceptual plan of
Option 4 as a combination of the most popular features of Options
1,2 and 3 as determined by the online resident's poll and
comments received at the May meeting. Bruce and Therese also
addressed the idea of installing a restroom on the park premises.
The poll revealed some support for a restroom.
2. Commissioner Bradford asked the residents in attendance, to join
the Commissioners at the table for viewing of Bruce's conceptual
plans.
3. Bruce made the following comments:
. Low fences surrounding the grass area to prevent children from
running into the street. They can have roses planted to grow on
the fences. They can be separate offset sections of fence or
have swinging gates.
. The surface of the basketball court is a soft resilient surface
similar to the surface at Wilson Park. Bruce can put various
game designs on the surface like, hopscotch and foursquare so
that children will have access to playing games other than
basketball. The soft surface will also reduce the sounds of a
bouncing ball on the court.
. Square picnic tables can have chess and checkers games inlaid
in the tabletops. Permeable pavers will be place under the
tables.
. Bruce displayed a few options as to the placement of the
bathroom. It seemed best to have it along the trail and under
the tree line, with good visibility for law enforcement patrol.
B. Commissioner Bradford asked the Commissioners for their comments on
Option 4.
1. Commissioner Chen said he thought that it was good to
incorporate Options 1 and 3 into Option 4 and he felt that it
adequately satisfied the resident's requests. He also liked
the idea of adding a bathroom.
2. Commissioner Lee said that Option 4 factored in the safety
concerns and he also likes the idea of installing a bathroom.
C. Commissioner Bradford thanked the residents for coming together and
agreeing on how to create a park that the community and residents would
all enjoy using. She asked about parking and Therese Smith said that
parking would be on the street. Commissioner Bradford also said that she
likes Option 4 as a compromise for multiuse that would serve as many
residents as possible. She also asked if the bathroom could be added at a
later date and Therese said that it could, however, the park project is
funded in the proposed budget and that the money may not be available
later.
MOTION: Commissioner Chen moved to recommend the Option 4
park design to Council with the resilient surface basketball court to
have other games added for multiuse, and to include the installation
of a bathroom in the park.
The motion was seconded by Commissioner Lee and passed 3-0.
